antibiotics will make a fungal infection worse, not better.
correct, you would've had obvious lesions within a few days of the burning sensation starting for herpes.
Grace. The burning has been treated with 4 days of broad spectrum antibiotics. No relief of burning both inner thighs and right lower scrotum.
Am I to assume if this is hsv2 the burning would have blistered within a few hours after starting. The burning has been with me for 10 days now. I am currently 32 days post possible exposure.
Tested again for elisa igg today. You mentioned 3 months to be sure. Is there a good indication if this test comes in negative?
Thank you for your replys....
the herpes igm test is still used in infants. Many providers order it in error on adults because they are not up to date on the testing recommendations. Labs will take the money from anyone it is ordered on - they don't care and it's income for them.
usually burning and red scrotum is a sign of a fungal infection, not herpes infection.
the changes in your igg result are meaningless. You could get those differences if you had 2 vials of blood drawn at the exact same time and had 2 separate tests run at the same time on them.
night sweats and chills are very non-specific symptoms that can be due to any infection.
Thanks Grace, Much appreciated! A few follow up questions if I may:
Yes, I do have oral hsv1, have had for years and know when to take acyclovir for the stop of outbreak.
1.) If the Elisa HSV2 specific for HSV2 test is negative at 10 and 18 days is this not a good sign? I understand the concern with false positives but hard to see if the test is negative for the specific antibody why is it unreliable and why does the medical profession continue to use it.
2.) If my burning and red scrotum is a sign of first outbreak at 3 weeks post exposure would have the acyclovir have stopped the formation of blisters?
3.) A rising IGG index value from less than .5 to a .5 within a one week time frame show sign of increasing antibodies?
4.) Also, I have had body chills with no fever, and night sweats could this be a sign of seroconversion for hsv2?
Thanks Grace again for your reply, doing my best to understand my body reactions and test results early in the window period.
you had no risk for hiv from this encounter since it was protected. if you have questions about your hiv testing, post them on the hiv forum.
herpes igm testing is inaccurate and we don't recommend its use. A negative igm isn't always a sign that you didn't contract herpes. Igg herpes testing has to be done any time after 3 months post encounter to be accurate. A one time protected encounter is very low risk and we don't routinely recommend testing from it. if you have a regular partner to protect, repeat your hsv2 igg after 3 months just to err on the side of caution but really no reason to think you have contracted genital herpes.
your hsv1 is most likely oral whether you can recall ever having had cold sores or not.
really no reason to be on acyclovir at this point.
burning thighs only and no other genital symptoms usually is a fungal infection. continue to follow up with your doctor as needed for your ongoing symptoms.
