Accurate testing

I recently tested positive for HSV 1 IgG and HSV 2 IgG.  I asked several times the name of the test used, and the lab tech kept telling me that was the brand and or name of the test.  I also asked for my levels and was told over and over they only do a positive or negative reading.  Is this accurate or did the lab tech not know what she was talking about?  I am very worried and frustrated that I am getting no consistent answers from them.  Hope you all can help?

HI Grace,
I do have one other question.  Do you know a lot about Diasorin the brand name of the test used for me (was FDA approved in 2008).  My research prior to 2008 said it was a horrible test and only tested for crude antigens.  I would assume it tests for antibodies now since it has been FDA approved.  Can't find any recent research on it except that it is listed on the Asha's list of blood test to use.  Just curious if you have any more info about this test.
Thanks! :)

I really appreciate your help and support.  I will get further testing even though I spoke to the nurse practioner again today and she swears a positive is a positive even if it is a 1.2 (which she confirmed with the lab that levels were not done) and this forum that I told her about I'm on....well she pretty much said is NOT reliable.  I think she is not reliable.  You have been a wealth of knowledge and a way to keep my sanity.
Take care!

there is a false positive issue which is why knowing the numeric result is important. If you have a low + result, additional confirmatory testing is needed.

Thanks so much for helping with my question and giving me resources to contact.  I met with the nurse practioner today.  This is the information she gave me...She said the lab uses HerpesSelect ELISA, which after contacting HerpesSelect myself told me that the ELISA assigns a numeric value.  The Herpeselect immunoblot only does positive and negative.  Apparently, she was wrong and she is calling the lab tomorrow for me to confirm which test is actually used since I was only given a postive or a negative.  She also stated there is no need for any nurmeric value to be given.  It is an accurate test of positive or negative.  I am desperately hoping thi is inaccurate since I have been reading soooooo many of these posts on here and everyone says a value is needed for accuracy.  Is this correct?
I don't have a current partner.  My obgyn lost her liscense due to cocaine and alcohol use at work.  She always would say you obviously don't have herpes because of no outbreak.  I saw her for 9 years and I started doing STD research on my own when I realized she had no idea what she was doing.  I had NO idea that genital herpes can lay dormant in your body.  I guess I freaked out and got tested....now I am freaking out even more! :)
Thanks again!

the easiest thing to do is to repeat your testing elsewhere.

if you are in the US, you can utilize tstd or healthcheckusa if either of them have a participating lab near you. both run about $100 for herpes igg blood testing.

It is possible the lab tech is not properly informed.

Herpeselect & Captiva are the names of two popular HSV I IgG & HSV II IgG tests.
These two tests assign numeric values.

The Herpeselect Immunoblot is a possibility; it returns with a positive or negative result.

A few other tests exist; however, I do not think they apply, as one only tests for HSV II (not HSV I) & the other has to be ordered from the University of Washington.

I would attempt to speak to a supervisor or manager at the lab for more thorough answers.  If not, you should attempt to take a IgG test such as the Herpeselect or Captiva, as it is important to know the assigned numeric value.  This can assist in further action/confirmatory tests, if necessary.

Do you have a current partner?  What led you to seek testing?
