Okay...thanks for the response, my doctor didn't seem to think that there was a difference in the re-occurring of outbreaks whether it was HSV-1 or HSV-2. He said that they were exactly the same, which I found odd.

Your hsv1 genital infection isn't just in the anal area - it's the entire anogenital area. It's no different from someone who had a hsv1 ob on their actual genitals.
of folks who have hsv1 genitally, about half never have another recognizable ob. Of those who do, the average is 1 additional ob the first year and then 1 ob every other year. Only a small percentage of folks have recurrences more often. on average, hsv1 sheds less than a dozen days out of the year.
knowing your partners status is also important. if they also have hsv1, your genital hsv1 isn't an issue. if they have hsv2, you need to take measures to protect yourself from that.
