Another question about an outbreak

I was diagnosed with genital HSV 1 about 6 months ago and have two outbreaks including the initial outbreak thus far.  My question is I seem to have been getting a white discharge quite frequently for a very long time, I used to also get frequent yeast infections however, I have noticed that the white discharge and itching also starts a few days before an outbreak as well.  Is this normal?  How can I tell if I am just having normal discharge, a yeast infection or about to start another outbreak?  I would like to be able to tell symptoms of an oncoming outbreak so I can refrain from sexual activity during that time, but I feel like I am constantly having these symptoms.  Any help would be appreciated!

the lesion culture was also hsv 1 positive.  I used over the counter yeast treatments, that hasn't helped.  No odor, nothing else, just itching.  I just had an outbreak a few weeks ago, what would it mean if i am already having a second one?  The small percentage of folks who do have frequent recurrences, do those only last for the first year and then die off or do they continue to have recurrences?

only a small percentage of folks who have hsv1 genitally get frequent recurrences. Odds are your itching issues aren't due to your hsv1 genital infection.

just to confirm, your lesion culture was also hsv1+ or just hsv+ and your blood test was hsv1+?

Just to know for my own knowledge, is it possible to have a recurrence with itching as the only symptom, no lesions, burning or pain what so ever, or does itching without lesions only happen during the prodome phase?

Also, if that is the case, the prodome phase only lasts a couple days, so if i have been having itching for over a week is it safe to say this isn't a herpes recurrence?

My doctor has tested me a couple times for yeast and bacteria by swabs and each time said I  was clear when i have had itching.  I have been extremely dry and itching all over my body due to taking accutane , could it be possible that my itching in the genital area is due to this as well?

I advise going back to your provider to be properly tested for yeast and bacterial vaginal infections again. not just a looksee but make sure that they are either sending samples of your vaginal fluids to the lab or that they are examining them themselves under the microscope. this sounds more like bv than yeast.

I also have had genital hsv1 for 6 months. I just recently for the first time was having the same experience as you, heavy discharge for a few days and then what seems to be a OB right now. I don't have lesions, just tingling and soreness it seems. I'm pretty sure it's an OB and not a yeast infection because my lymph nodes in my thighs are a bit swollen. Have you tried valtrex? I take it daily and am taking double the dose for three days during this OB. I think it is definitely worth it if you're having multiple OB's with type 1. I also hope this OB I'm having now will not be the start of many more. I'm pretty sure heavy stress and lack of sleep caused mine.

I am sorry for being so paranoid and asking so many questions.  So for about 5 days now I have been having itching in the genital area on and off throughout the day.  I haven't developed any obvious lesions, am I having my 3rd OB already?  I have HSV 1, why am i having so many problems with this, I thought it was supposed to be mild?

I was diagnosed with a culture and I had a blood test done a few months later to confirm it was HSV 1.  Before my recurrence I actually had an annual exam done, I told my doctor that I had been experiencing a white discharge and itching and she ran tests and said everything was normal, and that it is normal to have white discharge, however, 3 days later I started to experience an OB.  I had the same thing happen during my primary infection however that time I did have a yeast infection as well. I am just worried thinking if the discharge and itching is the prodome phase of an OB, how am I already having another OB, its only been 2 weeks since my first recurrence.  I really hope I am not one of the unfortunate ones who experience OBs all the time despite it being HSV 1.

Agree with Seven07. There's a good chance something else is going on, perhaps bacterial or fungal.

I too have genital HSV1, and after my first horrific outbreak (which lasted about 3 weeks start to finish), I then had a yeast infection. After that, I took a probiotic for a few months, as the good old flora just couldn't even out. You could try Rephresh-Pro B or Femdopholis, both work well.

Still, I'd definitely see your doc for testing of yeast / bacteria. Most likely this is not an ongoing OB. I'm going on 2 years now, and have only had one other OB and it was VERY mild, with Valtex curbing it in about 2 days. It's really the "lucky" herpes to have :-)

How were you diagnoised with Genital Herpes?  Was it with a visual or culture or blood test?

I would advise that you get the discharge checked out.  Some ladies do have normal discharge.  However, if the discharge is continuing for some time then you need to see your doctor.

I'm new at this, but I think grace would tell you that if the symptoms are lasting that long than it's probably not herpes causing all your issues. Probably time to go see your doc.  I though genital HSV1 was fairly mild in most cases.

Any suggestions from anyone? Anyone have something similiar?  How can you tell if the discharge and itching is a sign of an oncoming outbreak or something else?
