True, I was inferring the net outcome of testing with Heroeselect then Westernblot to confirm any issues such as false positives or unreconciled symptoms.
How is a 90% sensitivity for HSV-1 considered extremely few for false negative?
That is not correct. Herpeselect testing will correctly identify a HSV1 infection 90% or more of the time and HSV2 97% or more of the time.
For Westernblot these increase to 99%.
There are modest levels of false positive issues, but extremely few false negatives.
I meant 20% possibility to give false negative for HSV-1. Can I ask my provider to order the test and perform it on me? Do doctors know about this WB test?
Hi, i think you got this backwards, it says that upward of 60% of the adult population would test positive for hsv1 as was acquired at childhood. It ranges about 10% that miss the test for positive. Just have the igg herpes type specific blood test and the western blot is the gold standard in testing.
