Auto-Inoculation of HSV-1?

Three days ago, I noticed a bump on my right labora majora. It did not look like a herpes blister (when I squeezed it, white pus came out. There was no clear liquid and it did not look like a blister).   I immediately thought that I may have infected myself (oral HSV-1 to genital HSV-1) since I had a coldsore the week before. Since I had I valtrex on hand, I took 2 immediately thinking it may afford me some protection (not sure if this is the case though). I took another 2 pills the next day.

I know that auto-inoculation is rare but I'm having some weird symptoms. The lymph node in my right groin is huge and sore when I touch it.  A bit more pus came out of the bump today when I squeezed it. Today my right leg  feels strange as if it's "asleep". It's not sore exactly, maybe just a bit "achy".  Later on in the day, my right arm had the same asleep/achy feel to it.

My questions:

1. Does it look like I have infected myself with HSV-1?

2. Does HSV ever present with just one bump or are there always clusters of lesions? Since I already have HSV-1, I know that I could have a milder OB in the genital area.

3. Are there different strains of HSV-1? While I have not been sexually active in over 6 months, my last boyfriend had oral HSV-1 as well. Before dating him, my cold sore blisters would go away immediately after taking valtrex. However, once he had a coldsore and I got one the next day, and my valtrex didnt work as well. It took much longer for the blisters to go away. Im wondering if he may have a different strain of the virus?

4. I dated someone 3 yrs ago who had HSV-2.  We didnt have sex much (maybe 30 times total) and ALWAYS with a condom. After our first sexual encounter, he started taking valtrex daily. I was checked for HSV-2 and was negative (though I'm not sure if this was a IgG or IgM). Could my recent symptoms be some sort of recurrence from a previous HSV-2 infection that I never knew about b/c my HSV-1 made the initial OB so mild?

5. Since I took valtrex, will the IgG test be inconclusive? If not, should I take for baseline purposes? Or wait 4 months?

Thanks for any light that you can shine!!

since you've taken valtrex, it's useless to have a lesion culture done on this.

did you transmit your oral hsv1 to your genital area? absolutely not!

Be seen today or tomorrow and get this looked at. herpes lesions do not have pus draining from them. odds are this is a bacterial skin infection going on and you need proper diagnosis and treatment for it.

if you aren't sure how you were tested before from your known hsv2+ partner, repeat your herpes igg blood test to be sure of your status.  It's something that should be done periodically after new partners anyways.

From what I have read, auto-inoculation is pretty darn close to impossible.

In an answer to your questions:

1. Refer to this post by Dr. HHH:
http://www.medhelp.org/posts/STDs/Autoinoculation/show/246786

2. It's usually a cluster of lesions from what I have seen.

3. HSV-1 is a strain of a virus. The only other strain of this herpes virus is HSV-2.

4. That could be a possibility, but protection was used, so the likelihood of that is rather low.

5. Valtrex will not have any effect on an IgG tests. An IgG anti-body is always positive once a person is infected with HSV. However, certain tests for HSV-2 can produce a false positive IgG if you already have HSV-1 in your bloodstream. Most or all of the tests for HSV-1 or HSV-2 can produce a false negative IgG if you are recently infected.

I hope this helps :)
