HSV-1 & HSV-2

I know I have HSV-1 (cold sores), is it possible for me to have both type 1 and type 2. The reason why I ask is that I was recently with someone who stated that they were "clean" and 5 days after our first encounter, she developed sores in her genital area, along with 2 sores on her stomach. She was tested at a doctors office (scrappings) and it came back as HSV-2. Being that I have type 1, can someone develope type 2 from being with me? At the time of the encounter, I did NOT have a cord sore or even gotten over one. I usually only get them in the spring when I'm out in the sun. I also checked myself for daily for over a week and haven't seen any signs of an outbreak in my genital area.

So to recap, can someone who has type 1, give someone type 2.
Can someone have both 1 and 2?
Can the first symptoms apeear as fast as this case?

It differs for folks and the lower abdomen is a typical place for them.

you both need type specific herpes igg blood tests to see who has what.

Thanks for the info Grace, now I really don't know what to think. My partner stated that the scrapings showed that she has HSV-2 and I have never had an outbreak, nor the person that I was with (7 years) prior to this encounter.

One last thing to ask (for anyone). As I mentioned in the original post, she had 2 sores on her stomach. Is this normal for type 2 to appear on other parts of the body?

hsv1 can never turn into hsv2. they are 2 different viruses. If you transmitted your hsv1 to someone it would still be hsv1 - regardless if it was oral or genital.

Yes symptoms can occur anywhere from 2-20 days after being infected with 5-6 days post encounter being the average for most folks.

Yes, your regular doctor can order the blood test for you.

Thanks for the reply, so I still like to know about the other 2 questions and a new one...

Can someone who has type 1, give someone type 2.
Can the first symptoms appear as fast as in this case?

Can a regular family doctor do a lgG test?

Yes you can have both hsv1 and hsv2. At this point you'll need to get yourself a type specific herpes igg blood test to see what your own status is and then go from there.
