Can herpes spread through water? Worried sick!!!

Two weeks ago, I had what I thought was a UTI but turned out later to be herpes.  In the meantime, I had taken a bath with my five month old son (we were out of town and I didn't have his baby bathtub).  I was wearing a swimsuit, but I am still terrified that the virus could get to him through the water.  His doctor said this was highly unlikely, but I am still terrified.  Does anyone know if this could happen?  Also, I wash my hands frequently, but I am also wondering if it could spread to him if I didn't wash them as thoroughly as recommended (e.g., 20 seconds of scrubbing) after the bathroom.  Help please!!!

The herpes virus doesn't "swim" thru water.  You had on a swimsuit - your son wasn't at risk.

You also don't have to worry about washing your hands frequently - just wash them as usual with soap and water after using the toilet or touching your genitals without clothing - what we all do normally ( I hope! ).

You don't have to worry about transmitting herpes to family members thru casual, routine day to day contact.

No wonder there's such a stigma around this virus. Scary.
