you might get obvious cold sores or you might not if you are infected.

I was just tested about a mount ago. Showed negative for both. I have had blisters in my mouth, since I was about 12. They get triggered on hot days, or if I get stressed. Would I even know any other way other then a blood test?

it's assumed that rau is  not caused by a virus and probably has some genetic roots but we really don't know what causes it. It tends to run in families hence the thought that it's a genetic issue.

would having active ulcers make you more likely to contract oral herpes if you were exposed to active herpes virus? well probably since it's an open portal into the body for any germs in general when you have them yes.

I asked whether you were ever tested for herpes yourself because even if you can't recall ever having had a cold sore, doesn't mean that you don't already have hsv1 orally yourself.

No RAU is very simular to herpes. The symtoms and the remedies, however if I understand correctly it is a different virus. It is not contagious. I am not sure how it could affect the body if I am exposed to herpes when I have RAU.
