Canker Sore on Gums!

I realized that I have a canker sore on the front part of my gums above my eye took. You have to lift up my lip to see it, but it really hurts! I've read that only herpes occur on the gums, and I've also read that canker sores can occur anywhere in the mouth! What could it be?

The reason why I am concerned with herpes is because my aunt had a cold sore this weekend, and I went to her house for dinner and used her utensils. I obviously didn't share the utensils with her, but nonetheless, I used the utensil that was given to me at the dinner table! Any help advice would be great!

terri already told  that you were never, ever, EVER at risk for your aunt's oral herpes.  whatever caused your canker sore, it isn't from contracting oral herpes at your aunt's house.
