Cold sore

Hi guys. I performed oral sex on my girl friend two days ago without any sign of a cold sore as if I had known of any I wouldn't have done it atall. So the day after everything is fine until last night and this morning I felt a slight tingle on my lip as I always do when I feel a cold sore coming and now this morning I know there is one there and it is coming. I want to know the risk of passing them to my girlfriends vagina. Like I said there was no visible sores at the time

If you have had a cold sore before, it will be in your body forever. Now if you passed it on to your girlfriend, you will need to go to the doctor and have it figured out. Normally, cold sores don't pop up on the gentital area, but she could possibly develop herpes, which is what cold sores basically are.

Bringing this thread back up because it's a variation of my current situation. At the time of contact and sexual encounter, there were no physical signs on my partner's lip. However, some 5-6 hours later, she (my partner) first noticed the "red base"/irritation mentioned above. The poster above, Fleetwood20, mentions the "virus is only active a few hours before the red base starts to appear."

Is there any consistent data on how long before it's "active" and therefore contagious? I've read things from a couple hours (putting us closer to the 'clear') to a couple days (putting us in the 'risk'). Worried as heck over here since I previously was tested and negative for all types of HSV-1. And, our sexual encounter included oral sex.

Yes I am Intune with these cold sores I've been getting them as long as I can remember so I know As soon as one turns up I know the day I did it there was no chance of one being there so I should take that as a no risk ? Like I said I noticed last night 24 hours after oral when a red area appeared straight away and knew I'd have one in the morning thank you for your help

There is always a small risk that you may be shedding without knowing it and this results in an infection.

The virus is usually present only a few hours before the red base starts to appear and even less if you are in tune with your body and know that familiar tingle. Hence a day and half or so is too long to represent an elevated risk.
