Yeah I wish they'd stop reporting equiovocal too. It just makes it more confusing for folks. It is still negative - they call it equivocal so that providers will think about additional testing if not enough time has passed. More than enough time has passed for you. Also the biokit is considered a good confirmatory test to use and yours was negative.

ok-thanks!
well, I hate the word equivocal... so confusing, but since it was at 5months I'm going to make myself accept that it is negative. Also going to try to put the mirror down and stop checking for anything that might 'pop' up any day now. what an emotional roller coaster this has been! Thanks again!
About 1/2 of folks infected with hsv2 will test + by 2-3 weeks after being infected. It's not surprising when it's + just a 1 month afterwards.
I wouldn't bother retesting at all. You've pursued testing for 5 months. That's more than long enough.
tstd offers the herpeselect as it's hsv2 igg ( or at least it did the last time I checked ). It's considered reliable by the 3 month mark.

oops... i meant if i only knew then what I know now! :-)
One last question-my 2nd doctor said he didn't think i'd be positive 1.27 for hsv2 at 4 weeks anyway. do you agree?
Hi Grace,
Thanks so much for your reply!
I'm not certain if he has been tested and it's difficult to arrange to meet him now to confirm that. I don't trust that he is a person of integrity at all, so don't know that he would tell me the truth and certainly don't want him to start spreading rumors about me. The girl he was cheating on me with has been tested ( according to a mutual friend who has no idea that I had sex with him) and was negative. Who knows how reliable or what all she was tested for. Man, if I only knew now what I know now huh?!?!?
I would like a final negative test, just to put my mind at ease. There is an hsv 2 igg through std web. Would you suggest that or just the Western Blot if I did choose for a final test?
Again, many thanks!
I wouldn't even bother retesting. Equivocal is negative .
You've had mostly negative tests with just a low positive hsv2 igg originally. The incidence of false positive results when the result is less than 3.5 can be very high sometimes. No reason to suspect that you really have hsv2.
Now has your partner been tested? You knowing your status is only half of the story.
