Hi Doc:
I started sleeping with a man (unprotected) in February and got two Bacterial Vaginosis infections from him. Each time they treated the infection with Metro gel, I developed a yeast infection from the meds. Treated once with a gel and the second time with Diflucan pill. A week later, I came home from the gym, and my vulvular area was burning/irritated. I kept complaining to my doctor/have them culture my vagina and my urine and everything came back negative, but because I was complaining they decided they thought it was a UTI and treated me accordingly. It wasn't so of course the meds didn't help. Then they thought maybe yeast, so they had me apply topical gel-it only made it worse!
I was off any meds for almost a week and developed a fever/felt like my body was fighting back a head cold (sore throat, ear infection) and have had diahrea/watery bowel movements for about two weeks(!). Shortly after this, I had the office test me for any/all STDs. Everything came back negative EXCEPT my Herpes test. Doctor was unclear about which type I had (I assumed it was HSV-2 because that's where all of my symtpoms were occuring-burning, pain, ). The diagnosis was devastating, but at least they finally knew what it was...or so I thought. They treated me with Acyclovir (5-day cycle) and I went in for a check up today (finished all the meds). They cultured me again, and said that I developed ANOTHER BV infection (I have no idea how) which they thought was odd because the previous two cultures tested negative for any infections.
I called the nurse to get info on my prescription and gave her a brief history of my diagnosis. She looked at my chart and told me my culture and HSV-2 blood test were NEGATIVE, but that my HSV-1 showed a .9 result which means positive? I am SO confused and SO angry. I STILL have a fever, sore throat and it seems like the burning/tingling is returning.
I really need/want to get my health under control and would really appreciate any insight you could provide/any questions that you think I should be asking my health care provider. They don't seem to know what they're doing. Is it possible my HSV-1 result was incorrect? I read somewhere that IgM tests can sometimes confuse HSV-1 with mono?
HELP please.
Best,
J
