Thank you. I appreciate your help. I go in on 9/29 and I hope that is the case.
No I don't think you need to be at a loss here, there is at least one logical explanation.
Your swab probably was cultured just for HSV and not correctly typed. An assumption that it is HSV2 given the genital location will often be made. If your partner is your only partner, then you can only have HSV1.
If you received oral sex in the 2-10 days before symptoms first appeared then this may have been the source of the infection. His oral HSV1 infection may have been shedding and infected your genitals.
You will take around 4 weeks on average to generate IgG antibodies, hence the negative test so soon after the first symptoms. You will test positive for HSV1 I would suggest by 12 weeks.
For many people, this is it, you may not experience another outbreak in your life. You can expect the outbreak frequency to be quite low if HSV1 is confirmed. Your partner is practically immune from further infection also if it is his HSV1.
Thank you for responding. At first it wasn't bad but it got worse after almost two weeks of not knowing what I had. I thought the pain and swelling was from rougher than normal intercourse and maybe he had torn me so I didn't think anything of it until it got worse and I had blisters. I had been diagnosed with a uti on July 7th and had a high fever which is when I broke out with blisters later that week.
To be honest I have no idea what test my ob took. I do know she did a culture and blood. She did say blood work was negative for both Hsv 1 & 2 but culture was positive for hsv2. My boyfriend was positive for hsv1 but not 2.
I made another appointment to see her for some type of answers. I'm at a loss.
Did you have a bad breakout at the time with multiple sores?
Do you think the swab was correctly typed? Was it a culture or PCR swab test?
Were you tested for IgG antibodies for HSV1 and HSV2?
