Can you get HSV1 on the genitals?

Hi guys, just a quick question; can someone get an HSV1 outbreak on the genitals, if they've never had HSV1 before, after a new exposure?

And how does the outbreaks differ from HSV2 on the genitals?

Thank you

Hey guys, back again with my results:

HSV I IgG - Index 0.6 negative
HSV II IgG - Index 0.1 negative.

I'm confused. What else could be causing such symptoms? Thank you

Thank a lot feelingundone. I'm beginning to think I may have gHSV1, but it seems like it may be a latent infection.

I had what resembled a single herpes blister in August of this year, after about 1 month of having protected sex with a friend, but about 3 months prior I received unprotected oral sex from someone else. I didn't get any fever, or flu-like symptoms, and it was one blister, and not very intense. I did a test for HSV2, and it came back negative, but didn't test for HSV1. Now, I noticed a single, small, water filled blister appear in almost the exact same region.

I'll go get tested for HSV1 later this week.

Hsv1 is becoming a more pooular genital infection than hsv2. It's almost always contracted by receptive oral sex. The primary outbreak is very similar to hsv2 but can be even more severe. Past that it has much fewer outbreaks and sheds much less than ghsv2.
