Diagnosed yesterday

I separated from my spouse approx. 6 months ago and had been involved with someone else for about 3 months.  My spouse and I were thinking about reconciling and started having sex about 3-4 weeks ago.  4 days ago I started with extreme irritation which I attributed to hemorrhoids (which I have been dealing with for many years).  I was using Rx hemmorhoid ointment and sitz baths like I would normally do for such situations.  I was not experiencing any relief and there was so much irritation and pain that I went to the hospital on day 3 and was told I had what looked like "herpetic lesions" around my anus and on my hemorrhoid.  I was in shock.  Swabs were taken and it hurt like nobody's business when the doc did it. I was given Rx antivirals and pain meds.  I have had fever on an off for 4 days, swollen lymph nodes in my groin, nausea, diarrhea, and a very strange feeling in my legs almost as if I am losing sensation in them. I told my spouse about the diagnosis as well as the last partner I had so they can both be tested.  However my spouse has completely freaked out and cut me off, calling me every name in the book and using this as the last straw that we will never be together again.  I do not know who I contracted it from and at this point it really doesn't matter to me as it changes nothing.  I am concerned however that I may have spread the virus by having a sitz bath, not realizing I had Herpes. Any thoughts?  And is the fever and decreased sensation/numbness in lower extremities normal?  I have been taking antivirals for 24 hours, and have added Lysine and zinc to my regimen.  Any other suggestions to heal the lesions quicker?  It is difficult to find anyone to talk to as there is such a stigma attached to this condition.  My spouse has made it perfectly clear that I am alone in this.

I have encountered much conflicting information since being diagnosed with hsv 1.  I want to know one thing...if my initial outbreak was in my rectum/anal area, can I have an outbreak somewhere else, such as the vagina?  I am confused as to whether or not it is possible for an infected partner to spread the infection to my other genital areas. Or does the fact that I already have the virus in that particular nerve, as well as some built up immunity, eliminate the possibility of being re infected with the same virus in the genital area? Can I expect to only have outbreaks in the anal area? unless of course I accidentally spread it to a completely different area of the body? I just want to prevent this from getting any worse, as well as protect my partner as much as possible.

Bath water cannot spread the virus it needs to come from direct contact from the afflicted area. The fever is very typical and I think the numbness could be the cause from herpes. You are doing everything you can currently to speed up the healing process. As for your feelings and talking about it there are a number of groups and forums online you can try looking up where you can share your experiences. Hang in there!
