Does this sound like herpes?

I received oral sex on the 14th. About a day afterwards, I noticed a patch of skin on my groin, above and to the left of my genitals was sensitive and a bit painful. After numerous checks, the area remained clear of anything at all.

This continued for another day. Yesterday, I woke up and the sensitivity and pain were still there, but fading. By mid-morning, it was all but gone. However, shortly after, I experienced a shock on the tip of my penis. As if someone has poked me with a pin. The area remained painful, only lowering in intensity slightly after a few minutes. It remained in this state until earlier today, when it slowly but steadily began to disappear. There were no skin symptoms at all, save for the lips of my penis being slightly red. Urination was normal.

All of this had me concerned, but as the symptoms appeared so soon after my encounter, and have begun to disappear just as quickly, I thought it either some kind of irritation, or it might be in my head.

However, tonight is a different story. I suddenly have a burning feeling on a patch of skin on my shoulder. Intense burning. As if I have a sun burn. A little bit of redness. As of this writing, the burning has since moved down my shoulder towards my arm, yet that patch of skin is still warm.

My concern is this. I have a fungal skin infection I've been dealing with for several months. It doesn't burn, doesn't itch. It simply looks terrible. I don't know much about it, but is it possible that I contracted herpes during my encounter, and spread it to my shoulder? It's possible the fungal skin infection has compromised my skin, allowing the herpes virus to infect it.

Well, it all went away. Now it's back again. I'm not really sure what to think. The pain is getting pretty old, and so are my doctor's assurances that it's nothing. This 'nothing' keeps coming back!

sounds like you spend way too much time checking out your private parts dear.

At the risk of sounding hypochondriatic... I should start by saying I've got an appointment for tomorrow. Hopefully I'll have some answers then. Or I might get a referral. Ah, the Canadian medical system.

The inside of my urethra is a dark purple. What could that be?

I definitely will be getting a second opinion. As far as concentrating on that area, you're probably right. I've been making an effort to not look for problems, and simply wait until I get a professional opinion.

Thanks again for the advice, it's really appreciated!

I don't tolerate topical steroids in the genital area - not even the low dose ones like you were prescribed :(

If you aren't satisfied with what your doctor told you, get a 2nd opinion.

when someone describes things as going away in a few hours, it makes me think that they are spending way too much time focusing on their genital area.

Another update: I went to see a doctor about it, who told me it was probably nothing and prescribed me betamethasone valerate cream. What a mistake that was! Things started getting better, then much worse. Turned out to be the cream itself, I was having a reaction. Once I stopped using it, things calmed down again.

There is still some very mild general pain in the head of my penis, and there are red blotches that come and go. Sometimes there are little red spots, but those go away within a few hours to a day, and come back in the same places or in different ones.

Now I have that sensitivity/pain in the groin area again, but it's in the rest of my pubic hair region, MINUS the portion it was in when all this started!

I'm very confused at this point.

Thank you for the response. Just an update... The pain at the tip is still there. I'm going to see a doctor on Saturday.

This sounds more like a fungal issue than it does herpes. I think your shoulder/arm symptoms are unrelated.  Follow up on this with your provider if it continues.
