Do cold sores usually pus after they scab?

I get cold sores frequently a year. The last time I got a cold sore (about February) I used Abreva for the first time and after it healed that spot was tender and hurt pretty bad. Now I have another cold sore and it has scab over but there seems to be pus oozing from it in the morning for the past two days. This has never happened before and I am wondering if it is more common or if I have an infection?

abreva barely got FDA approval to say that it speeds healing of cold sores. it only healed them less than a day sooner than a placebo. it's really not worth the price you pay for that teeny tube.    have you ever tried the oral herpes antivirals in the cold sores doses like acyclovir, valtrex or famvir?

you can sometimes get a whitish drainage from a cold sore once it's been there a few days.  I really wouldn't worry at this point that this is something else going on.

Hi and welcome. If you have pus oozing then it is an infection. If your concerned maybe have the doctor check it out to make sure your ok.
