Dr. says herpes in children is common ??

I know of a 5 year old girl who was recently brought to the doctor because of a rash on her privates. She was  diagnosed with herpes. The doctor said this is common in children. I don't know anything about herpes but this sounds wrong to me.
Does anybody know of a young child getting herpes other than from sexual abuse?

If you are in the US you can annonymously report this to children and youth services. Their number is in the phone book. If you are worried about being identified from your phone number - call from a pay phone.  All health providers should be reporting anything like this but frankly sometimes the smaller clinics just don't want to deal with it so they don't. Darn shame though.

I thought either the doctor is giving out wrong information or someone is lying.Thankyou.
I will pass this on to a responsible party.

Genital herpes is very uncommon in children. It should always be reported to children and youth services for follow up because sexual abuse is almost always the cause.
