Eye Swelling and cervical pain

Just wondering if genital herpes can cause swelling of the eyes? My eyes seem to have been swollen for a few weeks now, it's the eyelids and also the area that droops down over the lids. I am female and experiencing pain in the top of my left leg but my glands in the groin area are not swollen. I went to a gynaecologist that said it isn't herpes because there are no lesions/blisters. Is this correct information? Thanks for any advice.

Hi Grace,

I posted on here too because sometimes it may take Terri a few days to get back to me. Are you familiar with my symptoms?

Hi Grace,

Wish I can move on. But tonight I felt a kind of burning feeling inside my vagina i went to the toilet and urinating hurt just a little. I then felt around my vagina and felt like a row of bumps in the crevice area where the outer labia meets the inner labia. Hard to explain but the outer line that leads up to the clitoris. Could this be related to a yeast infection or is it herpes?

I am feeling a dull pain in that area like something pressing on my skin in that area of my vagina.

I have weird feeling in my abdomen as well on both left and right sides. I had the same symptoms about 7 weeks ago hence, my belief it is herpes as the bumps are in the same location. Could they be something else?

My left leg, the same side as the bumps has been feeling pins and needles as well.

I tested negative at 9 weeks but that doesn't cover the incubation period does it?

I am going to book in to the clinic again but I would really appreciate any input you may have. I'm not going to be able to sleep tonight with worry.

no need to retest for syphilis and hiv if it was protected sex. why waste your money?

honestly not everything that goes on in the body is due to herpes :)

Hi Nouwi,

I said I would keep you updated on the results. I was surprised to hear that all my tests were clear for herpes. The swab test and the blood test were negative. It was week 9 that I had these tests and the doctor said I don't need to repeat the tests at the 4 months mark, as he swabbed the area that was feeling sore, if it is herpes it would have shown up.

I am going to go back for another syphillis and hiv test but as the sex was protected this should come back negative.

I am still concerned with my pains though but I can put the herpes concerns behind me for a while, until I get more weird symptoms. Also, why my face swelled up, all very strange but I was on holiday in Africa so maybe allergic to something there.

Thank you for listening and answering my questions. This forum provides so much good advice and greatly appreciated.

Hi Nouwi,

I headed down to the std clinic and had swabs taken from the area I am concerned with and also did the full blood test for all stds - hsv, hiv, syphillis etc... So now it's just a waiting game until friday afternoon.

I am a little concerned as normally the doc says it's fine I'll call you with the results but this time he was like, yeah make an appt and I'll see you on friday. He probably didn't want to tell me bad news today until it's confirmed with the test.

I will keep you posted. Thanks for listening.

HI Nouwi,

Thanks for your response and support. It's such a trickle down effect when you are researching on the net. One thing leads to another then you see pictures. My optometrist today said my eyes and eyelids looked fine. I guess I just expected to have blisters on my eyelids when I woke up every morning for the past 3 weeks. So yes, you are right my anxiety is high :-(

I am back in my own country now and am going to an std clinic tomorrow so I will get a blood test done. I did have some swabs taken of my cervix and the doctor emailed me to say that they didn't find any pathogenic organisms so that's a positive sign, but that was only about 6 weeks after the event.

I will keep you posted on the results.

Hi Petal130,

Thanks for your response. I guess I am reading too much info on the internet. I read that you can get swollen eyes due to a herpes infection. I have also read people posting that they get leg/groin pain with the herpes outbreaks without getting blisters.

I am seeing my optometrist tomorrow and a specialist std clinic the day after. I will let you know what's going on with me once I find out. Maybe I will stop researching on the net for the next few days.

It really helps if you keep adding to your original post.

You had a one time protected sexual encounter, which makes this very low risk for herpes. I have no idea, besides it being anxiety driven, why you would think that weeks of swollen eyes would be herpes. The risk from sexual intercourse (which is too low to make it worth worrying) would be of genital herpes.

None of this sounds like herpes and you're GYN thinks so too. Sounds like herpes fear is getting the best of you. See your medical provider to see what's going on with your eyes.
