She tested for yeast and BV (scans for chlamydia and gonorrhea were negative). She apparently didn't think the ob was still going on, so maybe I was wrong about the continuing ob :) I have been a mess emotionally, but I am adapting. They also took blood tests for HIV, syphlis, and hepatitis, which freaked me out even more.
She has me on suppresive therapy (Valtrex), which I think is the best option for me personally right now. HSV-1 is supposed to be more mild, but I just feel better psychologically to be on medication.
Did your gyn test you for yeast and bacterial vaginal infections again or just do a look see?
It sounds like the gyn didn't think that your ob was still going on and that this was just general irritation. Did they make suggestions as to what to treat it with?

I went to my gyno today and she said it just appears I have some irritation. I do have another question, though: If I was infected with HSV-1 and HSV-2 genitally, what would the effects be and how would I find out?
It just seems like this outbreak is going on quite long. I had a blood test in November that said I was negative for HSV-1 and equivocal for HSV-2, but the viral culture says I am positive for HSV-1....so I am very confused.
Oh, I forgot to mention, I was diagnosed with BV at the time they took the culture of the sore. I was treated for it, and the symptoms are mostly gone.
I wouldn't have something like a coinfection with MRSA, right? God, that would be horrific.
yea i think i may be getting an initial outbreak (mild if it is one). the symptoms i think may be attributed to this initial outbreak have been going on now for 5-6 weeks. if after 6 weeks the things i think r symptoms are still there can i start ruling out possibility of herpes? well at least rule out this as an initial outbreak?
what else could be going on? I am seeing a gyno Tuesday
having hsv1 orally gives you significant protection from contracting hsv1 genitally but not 100%.
At this point you need to call your provider monday and ask to be seen again. You need to be tested for yeast and bacterial infections and have a further work up done. it's not typical to be having these continued symptoms likethis.

It is very common around 80% of the population have HSV1 and not all are Oral .... The only time you need be concerned about viral load is if you think you were at high risk of contacting HIV which you were not so please don't start stressing about that now too and letting your mind go into overdrive try to relax because the more you stress the more outbreaks you will have since Herpes loves stress!! ......Anti-Viral meds such as Aciclovir are not terribly expensive.

Okay. Thank you so much for your help. I am ridiculously stressed over this (I will have to tell my mother in a few days because i cannot afford the medication by myself). It is really good to hear from someone in the same boat ^_^
So this kind of thing is normal? I don't have some sort of horrific viral overload?
It can take more than a few days worth of Aciclovir to heal things up completely, being so stressed out won't help either so try to relax and be kind to yourself for now take nice long soaks in the bath and it might help to pour warm water over the sores when you use the toilet to ease the stinging,it will settle down in a few days ..... if you feel your outbreaks are happening quite often after this one clears up it might be an idea to take the Aciclovir as a Suppressive for a few months to lessen the outbreaks which will in effect help settle the stress the outbreaks are causing you.

Yeah. They're not. I found a sore on Feb 8th, and since then, I've had recurring and healing sores. When one batch heals up, another batch comes along. it's the third batch now. I am miserable and terrified. I've been taking acyclovir since the 18th, but it doesn't seem to be doing much.
If it is Genital HSV1 then you will probably find that your symptoms are much less frequent and less bothersome than if they were Oral because both HSV1 and HSV2 have preferred sites but when they are outwith those Sites they are less effective and troublesome than if they are within in their preferred sites which is HSV2 generally Genital and HSV1 generally Oral ......
Daisy
No, it was a viral culture from an open sore. It was typed HSV-1
Having Oral HSV does not render you from haiving it genitally it can still present itself in that area ...... I assume you definately had a type specific Herpes test done? Were you tested for both ?
