False Positive HSV2 Test?

Hello to All,

I recently got the worst news I thought I could ever here in my life besides loosing a love one. I just found out I was positive for hsv2. Here is my scenerio. Prior to the test my last possible exposure was 6-7 weeks before. I had oral sex performed on me that didnt last that long. I always used condoms and never went without one but if the condom popped I will immediately change it. I understand someone can have it and not show no symptoms but I never had any signs at all, not even a lil in my genital area, I havent ate in almost a week and loosing a lot of weight quick stressing about this. My test reult is as follows: hsv1- 0.78 (negative) and hsv2-1.61 (positive) herpesselect ab test. Im waiting to go get a WB done after doing so much research on false positive. If the studies is right about the issue of raising the scale from a positive 0.9 to 3.5 (3.0 minimal), I plan on doing a whole lot of out reach work to inform others in my community. I am going thru hell. can any one else share any similiar situations or give there honest opinion? Hopefully from a MD. Thank you for your time

you can get your confirmatory testing done now then. your encounter of oral sex with another partner isn't an issue with your hsv2 status.

Grace,

Thanks for the response. My last genital encounter was 2 weeks prior to the actual test with a condom. She is also getting tested but the only exposure that I can think of was the 6-7 week mark that I mentioned. That was a new partner and the one who Im seeing currently been my same partner for the last year besides that one mistake. She also has no visual symptoms as well. We all always use condoms but it may pop during intercourse which I will imediately change.

you aren't going to get hsv2 from oral sex . when was the last time prior to the oral sex encounter that you had had genital sex?

In your case I would say you can do the biokit or the WB but you have to wait 4 months before testing.  Again the information I am giving is just based on a suggestion not based on your results.

Wait for grace though.  She maybe a little delayed it being the weekend.  If you don't see anything from her on Monday just reply to the thread with bump.

Thanks for your response. Im just over whelmed with the thought of waiting to be retested under the assumption that im positive with hsv2. Should I ask to have the biokit test done instead for now then follow up with the WB test? THis site is very informational, im sorry it would take for me to be in my situation to stumble upon this info. From what I read from Grace's responses to others on this forum, Im hoping that this will be another false positive case. thanks again

The doctors do not post in this forum.  You need to pay to post to them.

Grace is the only one that can read the results.  Your encounter 6-7 weeks ago was really low risk for herpes as HSV-2 orally is rare among people.  Your risk was more for HSV-1 but oral sex is still a low risk.

HSV isn't the worst news you can get.  I can think of far more news that is worse.  HSV is nothing more than a skin condition.  It is nothing that will kill you.  We actually have a poll here (I will look for the link) that is on going about the low positives being negative after a WB.  The fact is also that condoms don't do much in reducing the risk of HSV transmission.

A western blot should only be requested at 4 months from your last sexual encounter.
