POSSILE GENITAL HSV-1 CASE

Hi,

I had an encounter with an escort last Wednesday (12/5). I had protected sex but unprotected oral sex. The sex took unusually long (baout 50 min) due to the use of Emla cream. after that, being paniced and stupid at the time, I washed my penis with a 2% hydrogenperoxide. Two days later, Friday evening, I had a tingeling and burning sensetaion on the head of my penis. this got better every day untill it was almost gone by today, except I feel that the head of my penis is very sensative. remember that at no time I saw any bump on my penis. Also I did not observe any visible sore on her mouth. I have some questions:

1) What is the chance that the feeling that I describe is the result of irritaion because of condom use and the use of hydrogenperoxide versus genital HSV-1?

2) If it is genital HSV-1, is the timming and type of symptoms sound right? also, I'm a really paranoied person, So is it possible that I caused the symptoms by being very steressed about this?

3) My doctor gave me a type specific blood test ( I don't knoe the name of it). when whould I take the test?

4) In case of a negative result, what is the interval that I should repeat the test to make sure?

5)Which type of test should I take for possible genital HSV-1?

6) We also kissed. So is it possible to get the genital HSV-1 but not the cold sore? or if I get it I should get both?

7) If my tets is positive, yet no symptoms. Can I tell from the level of antibody that if this is a recent exposure or I had the HSV-1 antibody from before? (As you know there is a high possibility of having the HSV-1 antibody, I'm wondering how can I make sure that it didn't infect my genital area if there is no symptoms)

Thank you very much for your time

EMLA on your genitals to help prolong sex??? Hmmm....wonder if the manufacturers are promoting that one....he he he   can't wait until the next time the rep for them comes to visit ...LOL.

EMLA is a topical anesthetic. You can be sensitive to it.   Hydrogen peroxide is basically non-chlorine bleach which is why it's no longer recommended for routine skin care.  mixing them and throwing in some anxiety about all this sounds like a good reason to have some tingling in the nether regions if you ask me!!!  Just tingling and not any obvious genital lesions makes this not likely to be hsv1 genitally.

It sounds like you already got a baseline blood test done though? Once you get the results - post the numerical values here and I can help you better. bookmark your post so you can find it easily to keep adding to it.

I don't have the blood test done yet. I heared that I have to wait two weeks from thetime of exposure before getting the blood test. (is that true?)

By the way, I am not sensetive to Emla and it works perfectly fine for prolonging sex (emla is 2.5% lidocaine and 2.5% prolocaine) I've been using it for last 3-4 years as a treatment for premature ejaculation and it works imazing. I was not prescribe Emla I discoverd it myself and it work.

However, I used to use emla without condom in my 8 year relationship with someone. This was the first time I used it with condom.

So do you think I should get the blood test now or I should wait untill it is two weeks?

Thanks

I know exactly what EMLA is and I also have used it myself quite a bit in the past. I also know what happens when you use it for several years - you can get skin discolorations and changes in sensation in the area you use it on. Ask any hair removal clinic and they'll have LOADS of stories to tell you about their clients who have been using EMLA for years :(    You also can develop an allergic reaction to anything at any point - even something you've used for years. Lots of documentation on the web about lidocaine reactions/sensitivites.  You also could've had a reaction between the condom ( and any lube on it ) and/or the hydrogen peroxide too.

If you've never had a herpes blood test before then I recommend getting a baseline test now and then repeating it in 3 months if you want to pursue this possibily being herpes -  but even then - it's not likely to give you the answers you are looking for.  Most folks will test + for hsv1 and the blood test will only tell you what you have, not where you have it.  There's no way from a blood test to know if it's hsv1 orally or hsv2 genitally.

If you are still having symptoms I recommend follow up with a dermatologist.

I would refrain from sexual activities for the time being. Then I would retest 4-6 months later. It does take sometime for the anti-bodies to build up. I hope everything turns out good for you.

Oh and being the curious type I just have to ask - how long before sex do you usually apply your EMLA and what are you using to occlude it with?
