HSV-1 and menstration

Anyone experience an HSV-1 genital outbreak due to their menstrual cycle? I'm nervous about this happening. I recently was diagnosed with genital HSV-1 due to my boyfriend having oral HSV-1. I am on a very low estrogen birth control and am due to get my period in two weeks. Any advice?

I am also taking a daily immune booting multivitamin, along with 500 mg/day Lysine. I hope this helps a little at least.

Any advice or information would be highly appreciated!!

Thank you!

Yes. I contracted genital HSV-1 in 2004, had an initial outbreak and several the first 2 years. Then nothing for 5 years. Now in the past 5 months I have been getting a regular "cut" on different areas usually before my period. So yes, you can get it more often, but depending on other factors like stress.

No miracle, it happens for 50% of women. It does vary though. Best thing to do is not stress much about it. If you have another outbreak, it is likely to be one small patch.

It was localized and gone within a week. Right after I started Valtrex it cleared up within days. I hope you're right and this is the case for me! This never happening again would be a miracle. Thank you!

Did you have a widespread and painful initial outbreak?

Menstruation is a trigger for some women, but not for others.

Having HSV1 means that there is a possibility you will have no further outbreaks at all and average annual if you do. This varies by individual.
