Does he have herpes?

Hello doctor,
I am a 38 yo woman with hsv2 diagnosis.  My boyfriend does not have herpes.  Within the last month, he was tested for herpes and he was negative for both the type 1 and 2.  I have been on Valtex 500 mg every day and we use condom everytime we have sex and he does not do oral sex on me.

We are now on vacation in Cabo, and after being in the pool for 3-4 hours straight, he noticed red custers on the top of his penis.  It has been 24 hours since he noticed these red rash looking spots and they do not seem to go away.  He has not had any flu like symtoms at all.

We are very scared that he now has HSV2.  We took a picture of the bumps and was wondering if there is any we can email you the picture and see if you can tell us whether this is HSV2.

Thank you.
Shy

Sorry, I've been away from my computer for several days.
The chance of you infecting him, using a condom and taking suppressive therapy daily, is about 2% per year.  That is, about 2% of men having sex with women who have HSV 2, under these circumstances, will get herpes in a year.  There is little else you can do to reduce the risk of infection, other than these two things.

You can be aware of your "slit" symptoms, those could well be herpes.  But after that, and of course, him knowing that you have herpes, there is very little you can do.

If he did get herpes, the lesions would likely show up in his genital area, specifically penis, first.  And if he is negative for both as your state, he could get a noticeable outbreak.  If that happened, and they looked like water blisters, I would recommend that you get in to see a provider right away for treatment for him.

What did the rash from the trip turn out to be?  It is common to get a rash from a hot tub, genital area, under the arms, around the waist.  This is most often caused by bacteria in an inadequately treated tub.

The antibiotics are good ones, and other STDs seem unlikely that are bacterial.

You are welcome, sorry I was away for a bit.

If the refund is not available, can you please answer my question below insteadh?

I am a 38 y.o. with HSV2 diagnosis, but don't know about HSV1 (I have never had a coldsore around my mouth).  Although I was blood tested positive about 8 years ago, I suspect that I had herpes for at least 15 years.  At this time, I do not know when I am having an outbreak as I do not seem to get "a small cut" like symptoms like I used to get.  (I think this must have been the outbreak.)  I have not had an outbreak for over a year to my knowledge.

I am now seeing a man with negative HSV1 AND HSV2, and I am deathly worried that I may transmit herpes to him.  I have been on Valtrex 500mg suppressive therapy the entire time I have been with him and we use condom everytime.

How do I tell if I am having an outbreak?  Since I cannot tell if I am having an outbreak, when do I abstain from having sex?  If he is infected with the virus, does his outbreak show up exactly where the skin contact happened or just in the dermatome area?

With the suppressive therapy and using condom everytime, what is the actual chance of my transmitting the virus to him?  What else can I do to help stop the transmission?

These are my nagging questions that I cannot answer with all the research I've done.

FYI, recently I had a sinus infection so I had to take amoxicilin 875mg twice a day for 2 weeks, so I think I don't have any other STDs.  I did have all STDs checked a year ago and all were negative but the herpes.
