HSV 2 symptoms

I was exposed to HSV-2 on January 3, 2018. My partner was newly infected from an encounter 2 weeks previous but she had no symptoms during our encounter. Therefore, she had no idea she was infected when we had unprotected vaginal sex.

She had very painful symptoms approximately one week after our encounter. She was NOT in outbreak during our sexual experience together. After being diagnosed,  she  spoke with the other partner previous to me, who never disclosed to her that he has HSV 2. Her symptoms included painful sores on the genitals and painful urination.  She called the pain excruciating. She told me on January 11th of the exposure. I got blood tested right away and learned that I was negative for all STDs.

I have checked myself thoroughly every day since, and have found nothing out of the ordinary. YetI am  FREAKED OUT. I have no problems urinating, and I have no rash, sores or any other symptom. Yet my thighs are itchy. Front and back of thighs, in different areas. It is 16 days after our original encounter, and that’s the only Symptom. My questions are:

1)From the information I’ve found, only being itchy leads me to believe that I have not been infected, since I’m almost 3 weeks after the exposure. Again I have no sores or lesions. Is it possible that this is my only symptom and I have been infected?  My conclusion is that I’m probably not infected, but I’m looking for more information.

2) should I get re-tested in the future?  How long should I wait?

3) I tend to overthink things. I think of my exposure to hsv2 about every 3 minutes!!  Is the itchiness merely a psychological response of mine, or is it a symptom of asymptomatic carrier?  I find it curious that I’ve had NO itchiness on my penis, anus, testicles or any other part of my genitalia, but have it on my thighs.

Any and all information is appreciated and helpful. Thank you

Hi great odds you did not get it for a couple of reasons. fist you did not have any symptoms yet and secondly she was not having an outbreak at the time but got it after you. it would appear youve dodged the bullit! testing is not recomended with out symptoms unless you are going to be sexually active with others.

Thanks. Appreciate your response. Anyone else have something to comment?  I’m up for any words of wisdom and advice
1. I doubt you are infected. I think you would have noticed symptoms. Lack of symptoms should be very reassuring to you.

2. If I were in your shoes, I would probably want more certainty too. The median time to seroconversion is about 4 weeks. A negative reading at 8 weeks along with no symptoms would probably be enough for me to conclude I did not acquire hsv2. Almost everyone will seroconvert by 12 weeks. You may want to wait that long, but I really do not think you have to. I already think your test results will remain negative.

3. I think your itchiness on your thighs is psychosomatic. It is due to your anxiety which is probably very elevated.
Thank you for your response. Very helpful
