HSV2 antibodies

ok, first off i have done a lot of researching and know what every site says and what these blogs say. What i am looking for is some direction and some answers....maybe. But long story short I have had HSV 1 antibodies for awhile now (no out breaks) but today i found out that HSV2 antibodies have came up. The test is: HSV IgG 4.24 and HSV 1.49.

The Doctor told me that the tests are not the acurate and do not really tell you too much. I also asked if should tell  the people that i sleep with (curretn girlfriend) that i have the antibodies for Herpes. He was really unsure and was pretty much saying that its up to me really, cause I have not had an outbreak. Other doctors have told me that i do not really need to bring it up because i have not had an outbreak as well and its hard to give it to someone if you have not had the intial one....the point of this is not to lie to people but to find out if it's really an issue now.

I understand that you can pass it along with out an outbreak and it could be your whole life with out any. I am just stuck in a spot because i do not know if I can pass it or if it is really only an issue if I break out. I have already told my girlfriend. But what about girls in the future (not that i am thinking about another girl already) is it something i need to really bring up because i have never had an outbreak at all? Also the fact that my HSV 2 is only 40 points above the negitive numbers.

I am just in a weird spot cause if i had an outbreak i would know for sure what to do. But with this it could be anything...never outbreak but pass along type of thing.

First off you guys are great....very timely and strait to the point. I once again would like to thank you. Its just so stressful not knowing for sure. Like i said if i had an outbreak....then i would be fine with it and move on. But now I am like what am i suppose to do...even the doctors are like "ahhh, well you can say something or not say something.....you could pass it, you could not pass it". Can't wait until they actually know whats going on with some of these STD's. I am going to wait a little and then go back to the office and get tested again. I will ask them about the W test and see if they have a lab. I guess thats all i really can do at this point. Once again thank you for yoru responses.

you need to find out if you really have hsv2 or not. If you are testing falsely positive on the blood tests then you don't have hsv2 so you don't have to talk about it. You should however be bringing up your own hsv1 infection at some point to partners.

Call the Univ of Washington and request a kit, at 1-206-685-6066.  Then bring the kit with you to your doctor (make sure your doctor's office has a centrifuge to spin down the blood into serum).  2-3 weeks later you will know the truth.

I'm not so sure people who don't have outbreaks are not contagious, though, since asymptomatic shedding still occurs.

Thank you very much. Can i just request it at any doctor? Also if someone has tested positive for the antibodies but has no outbreak, is it something that needs to be brought up? Once again thank you.

so your hsv2 igg is 1.49?  if so then it needs confirmed with further testing. a herpes WB blood test would be the best bet.
