I totally agree - shingles won't reoccur 4x in 9 months. less than 5% of folks ever even get a recurrence of shingles in a lifetime let alone that often in a short amount of time.

you need to seek out a type specific herpes igg blood test as well as the  next time you develop your symptoms, be seen within 48 hours of their appearance for a lesion culture and typing. odds are if this is a herpes issue, it's hsv2, not hsv1 but you'll need the testing to confirm it.  with recurrences in as many different body parts as you've had this, it also very well might be a non-herpes issue going on too.

It would be highly unlikely for shingles to reccur 4 times in 9 months. If your doctor does not know what's going on but suspects herpes or shingles, be seen to have such sores swabbed and tested for such virus.

Being HSV1 doesn't mean much, as 80% of the population has it as a past oral infection. Outbreaks in the legs are suggestive of HSV2, the most common cause for genital herpes. But if your tests are negative for HSV2, odds are this is not HSV2 going on.

Did you also get tested for HSV2?
