HSV1 & HSV2 BREAKOUTS TOGETHER

I have a severe breakout of HSV2 in my genital area (outer labia right hand side).   I got it about 10 days go and it has not yet gone.  I now have a breakout (cold sore) in the right corner of my mouth.  I will talk to my doc about suppressant therapy.  My genital area has been dormant for over 10 years, but my present outbreak seems quite severe and lasting a long time.  I have been through lots of stress this past year.

2 questions.  Is it usual to get breakouts in the genital and mouth areas together?  Also, in the past when I've had breakouts on the mouth, the sore usually appeared in the left corner.  So I'm wondering how I'm  getting it in the right corner?  I always thoought it re-appeared on the ''same'' side.

I've been HSV1 positive since early childhood.  I contracted HSV2 in my early twenties.  I'm now in my mid sixties and am in a sexual relationship.

Thanks for replying again.

The only ''real flu'' I've had that just lasted just a few days was the 24 hr stomach flu.  I've had bouts of horrible flu in the past which lasted almost 10 days.  That's why I get a flu shot every year.  I think I'd rather live with the outbreaks than the side effects of Acyclovir, but thanks so much for your help.

no reason to think the "real flu" would give you symptoms for weeks dear. Most folks are only knocked down from it for a few days.

maybe give suppressive therapy another try and see how you do on it?

Well, like I mentioned, I took 5 200 MG capsules of Acyclovir daily for 10 days, because of my outbreak.  During that time I seemed to tolerate it ok.  Then I started on the 2 daily preventative course, but within a couple of days I got these horrible flu-like symptoms, really bad body aches and low grade fever, which dissipated after stopping the med.  If it had been the ''real'' flu, then that would have lasted a couple of weeks.  And I did get a flu shot.  But the symptoms I experienced HAD to have been from the med as they dissipated after stopping it.  I guess with meds, no one size fits all, and we all have differing metabolisms and react differently, and we certainly become MORE sensitive to meds as we age (at least I do).  I can no longer use certain antibiotics now that I had NO trouble with when I was yoounger.  Sorry for the long post and thanks again.

usually the side effects of daily suppressive therapy go away within a week or two of being on it.  how long were you on it?

It's been some time since my last post.  Yes, I was tested for BV and it was negative.  Since I got yet another breakout in my genital area (this was the 2nd time in two months), I decided to take Acyclovir capsules 200MG.  The course was 5 of these capsules daily for 10 days, which I duly finished.  My doc then prescribed another 200 capsules and said to take 2 a day for prevention.  I started on the prevention course but stopped today as I started to feel horrible with body aches all over, terrible headaches and slight fever (flu like symptoms).  I did get a flu shot.  I have now decided to stop taking the med and advised my doc of my decision.  I cannot walk around feeling so ill all the time.  If I do get another outbreak I'll just live with it and wait for it to go away on it's own.  Since I stopped taking this med I'm already feeling better.  Grace, have you had reports of side effects of this type from others using Acyclovir?

Thank you for responding,

Irene

oral herpes lesions can appear on either side. You won't always get them on the same side.

have you been back to be tested for bv and yeast infections vaginally to see if either of them are complicating your genital ob?
