HSV2 Swab Positive, Yet Negative 6 month IGG Blood Test

Hi! So, I KNOW I have hsv2 genital via swab. I just hit my 6 month mark and had a full std panel done including an IGG specific herpes test. It came back negative for the antibodies. (both hsv1&2). What does this mean for me? The doctor said we'll redo the test in a few months; however, as she told me - I could be in the 5% who never get the antibodies! Would that mean constant outbreaks? I'm really nervous... Thanks in advance for your help (I had 6 OB my first 4 months, so I'm now I'm on a gram Valtrex and haven't had an outbreak since)

Not necessarily. The valtrex is obviously doing a good job. You may still build antibodies. Some folks takes a long while to build them. I wouldn't call you cursed at all

Thank you! I heard that I was doomed because of the lack of my body to make the antibodies (if that is the case) You just put my mind at ease! Thank you so much... I also heard that some people also ALWAYS will have a low antibody level on Igg tests, but they still have herpes, but even so, not a lot of outbreaks... I ALSO heard valtrex doesn't effect the igg test. Anyway, I'm glad I had this forum to ask my question. I honestly would like to know a more scientific answer to why someone's body wouldn't make antibodies to a virus. I'm really curious about how and why that could happen. I tried google, but still couldn't find the answer. Do you have anymore information on the subject? If so, thanks in advance; if not, thanks so much for your answer and maybe you can point me in the direction of someone to explain this phenomenon to me?

Your Dr is correct as you are probably in the 5%. In rare cases tough I have heard of people taking more than 6 months to test positive. Keep up on the valtrex and retest again in a few months.

Thanks for responding... can you tell me what happens in this case? Will I be cursed with constant outbreaks the rest of my life as I'll have no antibodies?
