HSV-1

I was just diagnosed with HSV-1. I'm not sure how long I've had it. I understand it's just the common cold sore. Hearing things like that make me feel better about it. Then I read things online about passing it on to someone else through oral sex and giving them HSV-2 and I start to get really depressed about my situation. I'm 22 and single, and now do I have to tell every sexual partner before I even kiss them?

I've never had a cold sore. I could have had this for three months, or since I was a kid. My doctor says since I've never had an outbreak I must have high immunity to it. I'm just wondering if anybody else has any advice to offer. If I meet someone that I like do I have to tell them before I even kiss them? I didn't think you could spread it if you didn't have an outbreak, but now I'm reading all of this stuff about shedding? Can anyone describe what that is?

You can calm down, life isn't over.  Your Dr. is absolutely correct, you could have gotten it when you were a child.  I've had HSV 1 since I was 10 and wasn't sexually active until I was 17 and I am now 32 and have never given any of my partners HSV 1/2.  Talk to your Dr. there is medicine that you can take to keep the virus from shedding and lower the transmission.

Just don't kiss anyone when your having an outbreak and use condoms when performing oral sex and having a HSV 1 outbreak is very noticeable because you will have 1 or more pus like bumps on your lip.  Best of luck to you.
