Help would be much appreciated

12 years ago I had a odd rash/OB on my penis and had it checked out at the clinic. Nurse was unsure what it was, took my blood and swabbed the area and prescribed me valcyclovir. I never ended up getting the results as I was not contacted or was unable to contact the clinic. 12 years past without any symptoms. Just recently too a IGg blood test and tested negative for both HSV 1 and 2. They did not provide index numbers with the results just negative. Now I’m from Canada and would like to know if there’s any chance there’s a more accurate test. Also what are the chances that it was something other than HSV. Can’t seem to get any solid answers from health professionals here in Canada regarding this. Any help would be appreciated! Thank you

If you're negative, it doesn't matter what the index value is. It only matters when you're positive as it could be a false positive.

The hsv1 IgG misses 30% of infections, and the hsv2 IgG misses 8%, so it's possible that you have genital hsv1 and the blood test missed that, or hsv2, and the blood test missed that.

It's also possible that what you had wasn't herpes. Can you call the clinic and see if they have your results from 12 years ago? They may not, but it won't hurt to call and ask.

You can perhaps get a Western Blot test through Terri Warren at https://westoverheights.com/getting-a-herpes-western-blot/

She has worked with some people in Canada. Also, depending on how close you are to the border, it may make it easier. Talk to Terri about it.

Thank you the reply, I called the clinic and she basically said “oh no news is good news” and she sounded bothered by even having to look up my results. Canadian healthcare is something else.. I appreciate the response so thank you
US healthcare isn't any better, and I wish I knew of a country that had only shining examples of great healthcare.

Did she look up the results? No news isn't always good news. I've heard more stories about results sitting on desks while people are out sick or on vacation, or getting lost in piles, or filed wrong.
