Help!

hi there,  do you have any advise on how to deal with the leg pain that comes before an ob?

Shooting pains up and down my leg, tingling, crawling feeling in my feet, stabbing pain in the spot I know the lesion will turn up.  This is horrible and very painful, even the acyclovir makes it feel worse for about an hour after taking it.  Feels like the virus travelling up and down my leg, jumping on nerves along the way!

Also Do you know if there is any correlation between psoriasis (being and auto immune disease) and the herpes - attack when immunity is low...?  I seem to have a lot of outbreaks per year and even break through ones when on suppression treatment.  Wondered if it may be related to the above.

Thanks :)

I would guess that the inflammatory issues that go along with psoriasis probably contribute to your herpes being more active. some of the research we have show that certain genes and certain inflammatory markers in the body can contribute to herpes being more active.  So in other words , unfortunately it's just bad luck. I'd stay on suppressive therapy to help keep recurrences few and far between so you are more comfortable more often.

how often were you getting recurrences on suppressive therapy?

Hi Grace,

Thank you for your reply.

I am taking Acyclovir 400mg 2 times a day.  Up to 2 pills 3 times a day if I get a break out.

It is the Neuralgia that gets to me the most :( Ibuprofen unfortunately doesn't even begin to help.  Is a real mind screw!

Grace - have you heard of any correlations between H and Psoriasis?  Both effecting the immune system?  And inflammation receptors...etc

I have found lying down and hot baths help.  But only whilst you are having the bath or lying down as soon as you stop it comes back...No good when you have to sit all day at work!

If anyone has other ideas to try and reduce the pain I would be more than keen to hear about them!

Thanks :)

as soon as you start feeling that tingle, start your acyclovir and take ibuprofen.  you can take the ibuprofen every 6 hours to help with the neuralgia symptoms.

what drug and what dose were you on for suppressive therapy ?  you will still have recurrences even while on it but they will be less often than when not on it. you won't be completely ob free unfortunately :(
