The initial outbreak usually occurs on the genital area.
It could be either - both sides or one side. Recurrences are more commonly one side only.
They can do either - same site or move around.

Terri,
Sorry, A couple more question based on reading some old information on this site:
1) Does the initial HSV2 outbreak typically occur on the genitals or anywhere in the "boxer shorts" area.
2) I also read on some older posts responses about symptoms only occuring on one side of the body due to how the nervous system works. Is that typically the case or can symptoms occur on both sides?
3) Do outbreaks usually come in the same location repeatedly or move around within the "boxer shorts" region?
I just want to make sure that I am looking for the right symptoms. Since the equivical igM test, I have been hyper sensitive to any bump, spot or feeling in the area and understanding more about it may help me understand when I need to worry!
Thanks for all of your great information on this site....it is a great resource.
The chances that the IgG is correct is about 70% at this point. If the bumps come up freshly again, you should go right in and have them swab tested. Your sexual experience sounds low risk to me, actually.

One more question. What is the likelyhood of the igg test still not showing over 0.9 6 weeks after exposure?
Thanks!
I did not have them tested as I thought they were just pimples. They are still visible but reducing in size. They started to reduce after I popped the one. I did use protection except for receiving unprotected oral briefly (about 1 min). I have had bumps like this in the past, but not several in the same general area that I can remember.
No, it really doesn't sound like a herpes outbreak, but I can't tell clearly over the internet. Did you go in and have the bumps evaluated or swab tested? That would have been good to do, and would be good to do if they come up again. Was the intercourse protected with a condom? Do you think you've ever had bumps like that before on your butt check?
My advice:
1) if they come up again, go in and have someone evaluated them
2) retest 4 months after the encounter for IgG only, no IgM.
3) let me know about the condom use.
