Herpes Nerve Damage

I have been having sensitive spots on my skin before I get outbreaks. Sometimes its my arm, sometimes my leg, back or buttocks. It is quite painful.  Recently it has gotten worse. My back was sensitive right at my spine and has gone down to my foot and now the sensitivity it gone but my back and especially my foot are still in a lot of pain.  I am on Valtrex again to see if this will help. Has anyone else ever experienced this? I have been tested for other things also. Inluding Celiac Disease about 2 years ago ( I wasn't having this problem at the time, though). I also have was diagnosed with IBS 3 years ago. Help?

Actually I do get this when I don't get any outbreaks.  The sensitive spots are hard to explain.  If you touch my skin it hurts, if something cold touches me it really hurts. Its like the opposite of being numb. I have always assumed it meant that the virus was active but I do not always get an outbreak when this happens.  ANd this last time I got these sensitive spots THAT feeling went away but I still have pain in my foot and  and right at the bottom of my spinal cord. The foot pain is odd too. When I have been sitting down a while and start walking on it is when its the worse.

Thanks, Nicky48

This sounds like a typical prodromal symptom for you - a signal that the virus is active and you will get an ob.  If this is only happening right before you get an ob, it probably is what is going on. If you are having these pains and no ob's, you need to follow up on them with your provider.

If you started daily suppressive therapy with valtrex, you should be having less of this since you'll be having less ob's and the ones you do have, should be milder.

What do you mean by sensitive spots?  And are you having the pain eventhough you are not having an outbreak?
