Herpes Tests

In 2002, I thought I may have contracted herpes, after many IGG/IGM HSV 1 and 2 tests with inconclusive results and negative vaginal swab cultures, I was confused.  In 2006, I went to an internal disease specialist and he concluded after reviewing all test results that I did not have herpes.  Here we are in 2009 and I had some painful vaginal symptoms (which was first treated as a UTI) and got very sick (fever, body aches, chills and vomiting), I saw my ob doctor who took a vaginal swab and said it is positive for HSV.  Then sent me for blood test (IGG/IGM HSV 1 and 2), I am waiting for results.  I am very confused.  After seeing the iternal disease doctor I was abstinant sexually until my current manogamous relationship of 2 years.  Could these test be wrong? Is there a gold standard test I can take to confirm the diagnosis and if yes, which test?  Are there absolutely no cures for herpes?  Any help would be appreciated.  CM

Thanks for your response.  The vaginal culture was positive but not type specific.  Tomorrow I will know the results from the IGG/IGM type specific blood tests.  I will write more then. Thanks so much, CMM1964.

At this point I recommend that your current partner get tested for herpes with a type specific herpes igg blood test to see what their status is.

Once you get the results of this newest test, ask them what the hsv1 igg result is and the hsv2 igg result and write them down - ie hsv1 igg 5.6 and hsv2 igg 2.5 or whatever they are. I can best help you when I see those results.  If you can get the last herpes igg blood test results you had had done too - that too would be helpful for me.

did they type this newest culture to know if it's hsv1 or hsv2?
