Herpes Worried Part 3

Good day.

I’m a returning patient as the frequency of my Herpes outbreaks is puzzling and I’m concerned.

Is it normal for someone who didn’t have an outbreak for a while after the initial one to have them as frequent as I’m now (table below)?
Because of my circumstances (If needed, kindly look  at my previous posts in Herpes/HIV prevention, Expert Forum) I did another HIV test on 28/08/09 (11 months & 25 days from latest possible exposure) result; Negative, but all of this and other relevant symptoms started at around 23 days after possible exposure, if it isn’t HIV than what can it be?

Lab test method used; HIV Ab 1&2, brand of test  “Determine” by Inverness Medical Innovations, Inc/ Abbott Laboratories, is this an ok test and does it detect all groups; M, N and O?

Dr. Warren, earlier you mentioned that I needed to do; …“ IgG, not IgM and that the HSV 2 value was >3.5 for certainty”  I honestly couldn’t gather enough courage to redo the test, do I have to?

You also mentioned "If something suppresses your immune system temporarily, you could have more frequent outbreaks and then, when that changes, get fewer." isn't it time that it should get less frequent?

Event      Date
Initial H. Outbreak 31/11/05
H O 14/02/06
H O 15/04/06
H O 02/05/06
H O 23/09/08
H O 01/02/09
H O 28/02/09
H O 06/04/09
H O 16/05/09
H O 11/07/09
H O 04/10/09
H O 20/11/09
H O 24/12/09
H O 11/02/10

My wife (Negative) wants to have unprotected intercourse and thinks that if we both take Valtrex once a day it shouldn't transmit to her, I, of course disagree, is this correct?
I'm otherwise healthy or at least it seems like this, no other symptoms are present at the moment but the stress this is causing, all I need to know is; is this normal?.
Kind regards,
Carlos.

I'm so sorry, but I can't help you with specific symptoms and whether or not they are due to herpes, but I can suggest that the standard of care is to confirm all HSV 2 positives that are below 3.5.  Yes, you can have samples sent anywhere in the world to the University of Washington.  Here is the link to their website where you can find instructions for your doctor to send the test.

The link to the University of Washington website is - http://depts.washington.edu/rspvirus/herpes.htm  all the info you need is on that website too.

Hello Ms Terri,

Many thanks for your reply.
I understand and highly appreciate your kind attention and hope that I may be be HSV 2 Negative but what about the other clear indications and facts; the first and recurring HSV 2 outbreaks / symptoms and their response to the use -or not- of Valtrex in addition to my first HSV 1 & 2 Ab test over six years ago showing positive, aren't these all solid proofs?
I'm sorry but as you can see, this whole testing thing is already very stressful to me where thinking that I'm going to be OK without HSV complications is all that matters.

BTW, after treating my HSV1 outbreak (corners of the mouth) for the first time many years ago I never got a recurrence..

I don't live in the US and my samples will need to be shipped there, would this work?

Thank you.
Carlos.

Your HSV 2 value (in combination with a very positive HSV 1 value) is in the range that requires confirmation by western blot.  Would you be able to ask your doctor to use Quest labs and drawn test #34534?  There is a chance that this could be a false positive HSV 2 test.

Dear Ms Warren,

As requested, just got my results for the type specific HSV I & II confirming my status, positive;

HSV I IgG Type Specific                   6.70 (H)         Range 0.00-0.90
HSV II IgG Type Specific                  1.41 (H)         Range 0.00-0.90
HSV I & II IgG Type Specific Comb.   1.70 A           Range 0.00-0.90 Ratio

BTW, I forgot to mention that, after my penile (yeast infection/irritation?) around the same time I felt very ill (13/09/08) after which these penile HSV outbreaks/recurrences started to come more often (every 2.5 - 3 months) I still have irritated/raw skin (getting better) around my penis's prepuce area, could this be what is causing the increase in the frequency of outbreaks?

Regards,
Carlos

I went back and looked at your previous post.  There is nothing here that suggests to me that you have HIV.  I would believe your HIV tests and take that off your plate of worries completely.  And STOP TESTING.  Research has found that continuing to repeatedly test keeps your worries going longer vs. stopping them.

I again ask that you get your herpes test confirmed, just to be certain.

Good morning,

No Ms Warren, I mean HIV, which I'm/was worried can be causing the new more frequent reoccurrences.

On the 20th /08/2008 I fell sick and had every possible symptom HIV can give at an ideal point after last unprotected oral intercourse and have been testing ever since, all negative.
The thing is my HSV2/Herpes outbreaks are happening more often now and this is what I’m worried about as a possible indication for having undetected HIV.

Regards,
Carlos.

Where you say "HIV" do you mean "HSV"?
