Herpes after 7 yrs of faithful marriage

Hi. After 7 yrs of marriage, I found out that I have g.h. yesterday.  The doc said that I could of caught it from a toilet seat, but after doing days and days or reading on the internet, I havent found that thats possible.  Does anyone know?  Also I read that you would normally show signs around 20 or so days after exposure so why am I just now having this, if in fact my hubby gave it to me b/c of a mistake he made long b4 we got married?  There are so many questions I have. I cant seem to get any answers bc everything is so iffy when it comes to g.h.  I want to cry.

odds are that neither you nor your husband have ever been tested to know your herpes status. He'll need tested to see what his status is. Just because it's showing up now, doesn't mean either of you had to have cheated.

hopefully we can help you figure this out :)

Please do not hijack someone else's post - keep everything in your own. And no, you did not get herpes from a bikini! Thank you.

You most certainly did not get herpes from a toilet seat!! Sad that your doctor is clearly misinformed about herpes transmission!

First and foremost, how were you diagnosed as having genital herpes?

I know this reply is supposed to make you feel more at ease with a situation like this, but I just wanted to share with you that I've been on the same boat that you for about six month... I've only ever had one boyfriend, for eight months (I'm 23), and after we broke up, I went camping, borrowed a friend's bikini, and one week later, I showed up with what seemed like a yeast infection. But after blood work, my test results came positive. This was six months ago. I took another blood test last week, results came back positive again. My ex also took a blood test, his came out negative. I haven't had any other partners besides my ex. So, the doctor said it could have been one of two things:

a) I got it from the bikini I borrowed (which I still find so inconceivable in my own head)

or b) My blood test isn't as good as the Western Blot, so my said herpes antibodies might have been confused with the antibodies I developed after having chicken pox as a child.

I've done my research on the internet, but still haven't found something to put my mind at rest. I don't know if I have it or not, which one I have, and in my country, they don't provide the Western Blot. But I really just can't accept the idea of getting herpes from a bikini... much less from a toilet seat... A toilet seat.... Really?

I've been through all stages of acceptance.... denial, anger, sadness, depression and finally acceptance. If anything would make you feel better, which is what they told me, a lot of people have herpes type 1 today, so perhaps you could have developed it by having oral sex with your husband, either one of you had it and one of you passed it to the other. If anything, I'd ask your husband to get a herpes test himself. It would put YOUR mind at ease and answer a few of the questions you might have.

I'm no doctor, but I know exactly how you must be feeling. Not knowing something is horrible... especially when it involves health issues. I wish you nothing more better luck than I've had. Nonetheless, I've still got my hopes up that it might have been my chicken pox antibodies interfering with my blood test... if this is even possible.
