ghsv 1

I tested positive for ghsv1 thru a culture test. Negative blood result ( igg and igm). Also negative blood test at 3 months. My NP says that it is was recent exposure. I had my last partner tested. His results came back negative. We only had protected vaginal intercourse. The day after (sunday) my last partner and I had sex I noticed an ulcer that only stung when I urinated. Monday I went to the doc. Tuesday it was gone no crusting. 1.Doctor, my question is it more or less likely that I contracted hsv from my last partner or from my ex boyfriend a month earlier (who has never had a cold sore), with whom I engaged in unprotected oral and vaginal intercourse? 2. Is it possible I contracted hsv a month earlier from my ex boyfriend and had an outbreak later due to sadness and stress of my break up? Thank you for your time.

it's still a possibility. generally it's 2- 20 days post encounter but there are always folks who fall outside those dates give or take a week or so.

I know. thanks for your response. I dont want to waste anymore of your time, but I counted again and it was 26 days before the ulcer.

very well could be the culprit then since that is within the time frame.  hard to tell. like I said, what's important is knowing what you have and you know that.

usually hsv1 is transmitted through oral sex. when was the last time you received oral sex from anyone?

thanks for responding. it just seemed so bizarre to have gotten ghsv 1 from someone whom I only had protected vaginal intercourse with. especially since research says ghsv 1 sheds so rarely.

even the best blood tests miss 1 out of every 10 hsv1 infections.  if you are testing negative via igg test and so is your partner, obviously one of you has a false negative.

you probably will never figure out when and from whom. what's important is knowing what you have where so that you can take precautions with your current partner.
