Herpes concern

I just started a relationship with a man who was honest enough to tell me that he got herpes 25 years ago from a blood transfusion.  We have been practicing safe sex but my question is, do I have anything to worry about?

you can't contract herpes from a blood transfusion!!!

does your partner have hsv1 or hsv2?

have you been tested to know your own status?

Where did you get that from? That's ridculous. Do you mean 48 hours from contracting the virus? People can have the first outbreak a long time after they contracted the virus and nothing is gonna kill it by then.

acyclovir if used within 48 hours of the 1st herpes outbreak can kill the virus

Hi there.  I have a good friend that got herpes in college and she is WAY past college now.  Now she is married and has kids.  She can tell when she is going to have an outbreak (this would be true for someone that has lip or genital) of the herpes, it tingles and creates a sensation even before a sore appears.  She takes her medication and this is when she is very careful about protection for her husband.

I don't think you have anything to worry about if you use protection.  You can have a baby with a man with herpes but he'll need to moniter when he is having an outbreak in order to have unprotected sex.

Acyclovir, just to be clear does not kill herpes so that it doesn't appear again.  It makes the symptoms less and the duration of that particular outbreak less but there is nothing that cures herpes.  It will come back again.  Times of stress seem to trigger it along with things like super hot,  humid weather.
good luck

well herpes can be in 2 forms on the lip or on the genitals so it depends what kind of herpes he has ... 2nd if you start to feel any kind of herpes like symptoms you should take acyclovir which kill it and it won't appear again
