Herpetic Whitlow

Is herpetic whitlow only contagious when the sore is open. Can you have a blister that has not fully formed or burst still be contagious?

Listen, do you have this? Are all of these "what if" scenarios? I don't mean to be rude, but I'm not sure if I'm addressing hypotheticals or actualities.

You can not shed the virus from intact thick skin - you shed from mucous membranes (vaginal/anal/penis areas, inside the mouth and nose). HW is only infectious if you have an actual sore.

However, that said, if you have HW, your partner(s) should know, and if you are feeling symptomatic, just take the safe route and use other fingers or wear a latex glove or finger sleeve.

Yes, if you have symptoms of it, you can transmit it. You would see and feel these symptoms though.

So if you feel tingling or burning but you do not see anything forming your still contagious if your just feeling the pre symptoms of the onset? Also if you take your valtrex as soon as you feel tingling and nothing forms within 24hrs are you contagious?
