Do I have herpes?

I recently got a blood work on June 21 this year, the result came out to Herpes 1 IGG is 0.8 negative, Herpes 2 IGG is <0.2, Herpes Simplex IGM AB is 1.49 positive. The doctor told me I have herpes and need to do another IGM test to indicate if it is type 1 or type 2. I been with one partner for the last year and half, his last blood work (2 years ago)is all negative and so is mine. We both have no symptoms or lesion. My last Papsmear was May this year and it comes out all negative. I am very distraught as my doctor said I have Herpes but I couldn't grab an idea how and where I could get it from. I got another blood order for IGM to identify if this is type 1 or 2 but currently I am very worry, couldn't eat or sleep at all on the fact that I have herpes Any advice or explain would be greatly appreciated. THANK YOU!

herpes igm testing is very flawed testing. current cdc recommendations are that it not be drawn on adults for the purpose of diagnosing herpes.  It' s actually malpractice at this point for your provider to diagnose you as having herpes based on a + igm only. He really should update his herpes testing knowledge to better serve his patients as well as to protect himself.

you don't need a herpes Wb blood test at this point either.  You don't need the obgyn appointment either to be honest.

I'd err on the side of caution and have your partner seek out a repeat herpes igg blood test to see what his status is and if he's still negative, no reason for any further testing for herpes as long as you are with this partner.

Grace,

Thank you so much for answering my concern, I was waiting to hear an answer from a professional. My partner just got his IGG test back yesterday and it is all negative. My IGM test result is available to define the positive is for type 1 or 2 but the OBGYN practice did tell me to disregards the test result as same as you, which is a major relieved for me and my partner. It is such a huge relieve to hear all the same answer for a major melt down. THANK YOU again Grace! You're great!

Thank you for answering, my primary care physician stated that I am recent exposed within the last 6 months. I am seeking a second opinion from an OBGYN this time since he doesn't consider IGM testing but I need to hear what he has to say, appointment is not until next monday that is the only bad thing, more waits. I am definitely going to ask him about the western blot test for sure, Thanks again. I really appreciate the answer.

I'm sorry to hear that. I wish I had answers for you. I am going through the same thing. I had a positive !GM test. 1.14 but was negative for IGG. Apparently IGM means I was recently exposed...or could be wrong...since the IGG is the real indicator. I have no idea. I do know your pap smear has nothing to do with either the HSV-1 or HSV-2 though. Many people have cold sores...which is HSV-1. I'd recommend getting retested in 4-6 weeks. If you still think the results are wrong and have no symptoms at that point look into getting the western blot test (99% accuracy).
