Herpes or Fungal infection

Hi,

About 9 weeks ago I had an incident where I recieved oral sex, there was also slight vaginal contact with my penis but no "complete" intercourse. The very next morning I woke up a red rash on the head of my penis that seemed to get worse when showering. The rash also began to look striated or wrinkled with a couple little raised lines running down the head. There was no pain or discomfort. After about 4 weeks I saw a family physician who said it was just from rubbing. Around the same time I noticed a little discomfort just on the head of my penis for about 2 days and seemed to mostly occur toward the evening. At about 6-7 weeks I had a burning, deep seeded pain for about 2 days. During the 2 days the "wrinkles" on the head of my penis looked slightly shiny.

At about 8 weeks I saw a urologist who said "he didn't see anything". Meanwhile, the wrinkles and striations on the head of my penis have showed little change since the very beginning 8 weeks ago. I brought up the idea of a fungal infection and he prescribed me ketoconazole which I have been applying for the last week. There has been little change in the wrinkles but the redness has seemed to go down slightly. Now, at 9 weeks I have one small bump on the shaft of my penis, I have been diagnosed with genital warts in the past so I am thinking it is a new wart growing but I am very scared that it may be a blister. It has been visible for about a week with little change and no pain. Any pain that I have experienced seems to be only on the head of my penis and is also associated with a shiny look to the "wrinkles". Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Herpes takes on many forms.  It can appear as a singular bump.  But this is not typical of herpes.  Fungal infections can do a lot of things.  You scratch because you itch that can cause pain.  I have had various pains which I can say were only present when the fungal infection was present.

Thank you for the comment. One thing that I have not been able to get a clear answer about is can a fungal infection cause the pain I have been experiencing? Like I explained before the pain came in waves and it seemed like it came when I was "stressed" which seems scarily similar to herpes. I also can't find an answer about this bump, is it abnormal for herpes to show with one bump that is not painful?

I am willing to bet this is fungal. Heres why...

Herpes doesn't come overnight nor does it last this long.  It lasts tops 3 weeks.  So to say that it is fungal is more likely.  I am curious if the cream isn't working.  You may want to look into having the doctor change the cream you are using.  I would suggest though a dermatologist.  Since this is more of a skin issue and I have found they were more helpful in my own case.

Unprotected oral sex is a low risk activity.  Unless she was active with a coldsore you are at a low risk for the encounter.
