can you have a false positive herpes culture

3 years I had a large red bump near the outside of my vagina and it was extremely painful.  I went to the gyno, and they did a culture test and told me it was hsv2.  The bump went away a few days later.  It's been 3 years, and I never once had a break out since, nor have I been on medication for it.  I got a blood test taken this year and it came back negative.  Is it possible to have a false positive herpes culture.   I do have HPV, and was wondering also, if this would cause a false positive?

double check the results by getting a copy of them. You'd be dismayed at how many clinics say hsv2 when a culture wasn't typed :(

98% of folks will test accurately for hsv2 on the better igg blood tests we currently have available.  Ask your provider about getting a herpes WB blood test to confirm your status since you haven't had another recurrence to culture.

Call the clinic you had the culture done at and see if it was hsv2+ or just positive for herpes and assumed to be hsv2 since it was genital. Once you have that info,  post it - thanks!
