Herpes shedding question

I've read up a lot on genital herpes and I know that during an outbreak one doesn't shed the virus from thicker skin such as the buttocks or thighs. My question is what if these thicker areas of skin have cuts or are scratched open. Would the virus shed from those areas since the skin isn't thick anymore?   Any help would be great. Thanks.

If you had an active lesion on those areas then you'd shed from the area of the lesion. Non-herpes related cuts though wouldn't be an issue.
