Confused and scared

Im absolutely terrified and confused.
A week ago after a massive run  and the wrong kind of underwear I felt like I had a bit of chafing and what felt like a small cut in the skin just before the anus.
I continued to work out the next couple of days and it remained and wasn't painful to touch, apart from wiping down there.
After 3 days I thought I'd see a doctor for an antiseptic cream.
I didn't have time to get home for a shower before the appointment so went crazy with baby wipes, to the point I was alittle raw down there.

The doctor commented on the redness and said it could be herpes and sent me off to do a blood test.

Later that night the redness had disappeared and the invisible cut gone, everything felt good as new the following day.

Two days ago I received my test results back:

Type 1: positive (I get reccurring cold sores every few months since I was young)

Type:  2 equivocial
My doctor had told me to think of it as a being positive and that in 6 weeks time to retest and by then I should read as positive.
He's also saying it means it is a recent infection or that I could of had the virus for years and it's only gone active now.

I' don't kbow what to think, I've been with my be over two years and neither of us have ever had signs so how can I have been recently affected?

Also my partner works away, so we have had very few intimate moments in the last few months.

I'm going out of my mind. Can an equivocial become negative or is that wishful thinking??

See this is where I'm confused as I've been with the same guy for over two years, so 8 weeks from the last time we slept together?

8 weeks to 3 months refers to the timing after last sexual exposure...
a test at 8 weeks is a good indicator and 3 months is conclusive...

So how do I know if I'm within the 8 week-3 month period? Heaps of posts I've been reading people are saying the have just been with someone new and it's happened.

my doctor seems to think that even if my partner and I have been together for over two years, that you can have the virus for years and be negative then boom one day it activates and you body only then starts building antibodies.

I understand people can have no symptoms but surely if I was infected years ago my body would have needed to make anti bodies back then and not now ??

Sorry for so many questions.

Hsv1 can cross react with hsv2. And an equivacal is technialy a negative but they call it that because they think the body is still building antibodies but this would only mean something if you tested inside the window period of 8 weeks to 3 months. If you tested at the 3 month mark, you dont have hsv2 as the reading would have been in the low positive not equivcall.

Thank you, I really hope so.

I told the doctor that whenever run down I get reccurring coldsores for weeks iin end then might get 1-3 months free from then before it happen again. I find it happens after eating certin foods or lack of sleep.

I explained that  my last outbreak was maybe just over a month ago, I  had 3 cold sores in one week, was taking a tablet, lysine, echinacea, Zovirax and patchs but they were persistent when one healed another popped up. What was strange is  if I get them early I could reduce the healing time to 5 days. My last coldscire lasted 11 days.

After that ordel I decided to try an organic lemon balm lip Which I read up on and if used daily could reduce future breakouts. Needless to say I had the worse reaction to the lip balm and my entire bottom lip became swollen and covered in little bumps that I was prescribed a steriod cream and alternated between that and Zovirax as it couldn't be determined if it was an allergic reaction or coldsores.

In just kind of hoping that given that over the last year I've suffered really badly from coldsores could it be giving me the equivocial type 2 result?

My partner tells me to stop worrying and it will be fine, but I'm trying to prepare for the worse and possibly the end of the relationship, because I can't explain the results.

Hi, your doctor is misinformed. Having a high positive for hsv1 can cross react with hsv2 so almost certainly your hsv2 is a false reading.
