I'm not shocked at all. I spoke personaly to a lab tech at U of Washington. They do the western blot. The gold standard of hsv testing. He laughed and said when igg tests equivocal and real low positives that it has no clue what it saw. Congrats and you can put this behind you.thanks for sharing your results
Don
Please keep everyone updated. I have no apparent symptoms, but I am waiting on results as well. I'd hate to send messages to my prior partners, not to mention having a disease that increases risk for HIV and Alzheimer's.
It seems to be. I hate the way they post test results. They wonder why everyone gets confused.
I really appreciate the support. And thanks for answering all my questions. I just have one last one. At the top it said
Report Result Ref. Range Units Status Lab
HSV 1/2 IGG-ARUP 2.81 iv Final
Then toward the bottom it said
HSV 1/2 IGM-ARUP 0.98 <=0.89 iv High Final
INTERPRETIVE INFORMATION: Herpes Simplex Virus Type 1 and/or 2
Why is the top such a high number and then the bottom says I'm at .98? Is it the combined total of the SV 1/2 IGG, IGM AB REFLEX tests?
Thanks
At this point just try and clear your mind (I know easier said than done). I was in the same type of situation but with a liw pos of 1.3. Turned out to be a false positive. This is a very common tale
Please keep me posted and good luck. Not that I think you need it.
Also I read my results and one test for hsv 2 which was HSV-2 IGG AB GLYCOPROTEIN test and I was low. 0.31 but they tested me HSV 1/2 IGG, IGM AB REFLEX and the results say this
Report Result Ref. Range Units Status Lab
HSV 1/2 IGG-ARUP 2.81 iv Final
Specimen tested positive for Herpes Simplex Virus Type 1 and/or 2
Antibodies, IgG. ARUP test codes 0050292 and 0050294 will be
added. Additional charges apply.
INTERPRETIVE INFORMATION: HSV 1/2 COMBINED Ab SCREEN, IgG
0.89 IV or less.........Not Detected
0.90-1.09 IV............Indeterminate- Repeat testing
in 10-14 days may be helpful.
1.10 IV or greater......Detected
The best evidence for current infection is a significant change on
two appropriately timed specimens, where both tests are done in
the same laboratory at the same time.

Well I ended up calling and apparentley they were supposed to do an IGG and an IGM but only did the IGG which gave me the .98 and didn't say which one it was for. But no results back today and I have to wait till next week to find out. I'm still pretty nervous/ anxious, but you've helped a good bit and I appreciate it.
My educated guess says you don't. Again anything less than a 3.5 is highly suspect. An equivocal reading means nothing at this point. I know this can mess with your head.
This is why many experts don't advocate testing without symptoms. Because these tests are for the antbodies it can and does pick up odd proteins. The smaller the number the les confident it is and equivocal is not positive.
Yeah I'm calling today to ask. Because I read igm would be the only reason you got one results for two separate tests. And the thing is I'm pretty sure I wasn't even exposed to it. Both girls I've slept with this year didn't have any visible outbreaks and I still talk to them. I even asked them yesterday if anything weird was going on with them and they said no. But last time I had sex was about a month ago, protected, and I showered and was my genital area immediately after. I hope you're right not to worry, when the nurse told me I had it, then maybe I don't I've been a mess ever since.
It's still negative. With the exposures being protected and no symptoms you should be fine. Make sure the tests were igg and not igm. These tests are to pick up antibodies and anything less than a 3.5 is in the low possitive range and have a 50/50 chance of being negatuve. Don't worry this happens quite often.
How long was your last exposure from the test date?
