Herpes vs. MC/Dermatitis confusion

This is the sequence of events that has led me to confusion. I'm hoping someone can help clarify.

My gf went to OBGYN after a persistent Yeast Infection. Doc said it was some kind of bacterial infection, not a Yeast infection,  and prescribed Flagyl.

Simultaneously I went to the doctor and he came up with either dermatitis or MC. Prescribed some topical ointment. He was quite persistent that it was not Herpes.

2 days after her first visit my gf went to another OBGYN at same clinic she went to the first time. Another doctor there said   " it's def. Herpes ". ...

I have never had a "break out" or been diagnosed with Herpes. Ive read and seen an exorbitant amount of pics, forums, and blogs. None of the pics that I have seen look like what I have now....red, flat bumps on my penis head (some underneath, I am not circumsized) that have a tiny needle point sized black center..

So..... 2 doctors, 2 patients, 3 different diagnosis. Any ideas, comments or recommendations. ....and yes, were both having blood work done with a full battery of tests. I would just like to get some sort of peace for my gf.

Sadly there isn't a way (at least that I have heard) that will measure how "acute" it is.  Doctors will order an IgM test to attempt to see if the infection is new but that really is not a solid indicator given you tested positive with an IgG test.

Can you get your IgG results for grace the numbers?  IE: hsv1 igg 4.4 hsv2 igg 3.45

HSV-1 can be oral or genital.  About half the population has HSV-1 orally.  So chances are you do have HSV-1 orally.  There isn't a way to see where the infection is at without doing a culture if symptoms show up.

HSV-1 can be transmitted to the genitals during oral sex.  It doesn't always happen when there are no active sores on your lips.  It can happen though.  Oral sex is considered a low risk activity.

You get HSV-1 typically as a child from the kiss your auntie gave you or something of that nature.  As an adult this is only present when you have one of those long romantic type kisses.  Its nothing major to worry about.

The lesser of two evils is in my own thoughts depends at the site of infection for which type.  HSV-2 Oral doesn't shed often and doesn't make many reapprences compared to HSV-2 Genital.  HSV-1 Genital doesn't make many reappreances and is typically from what I have read more mild.  HSV-1 orally doesn't show up that much either but it does happen.  I really can't give you much more info then that.

Update-
Went to the doctor today. igg came back positive for HSV-1 and negative for HSV-2. He ordered an ign to measure its "acuteness'? I have some follow up questions maybe you can help me with.

I understand that HSV-1 is the "oral" type. Transmitted and contracted orally. Can I give my gf HSV-1 by performing oral on her?

How does one go by contracting HSV-1? By receiving oral sex from an active person, giving it, both, kissing, sharing a shot glass??

If so, does that mean that the site of infection, for her,  is her genitals? If so, does that mean that any possible future outbreaks will be ONLY in her genitals or will it manifest only orally or both?

In your experience, which of the 2 is the lesser evil; type 1 or type 2?

Thanks again everyone for your prompt answers.

If you read the Read Before posting we discourage pictures.  Someone may look at them but I really would think you want the best answers and those would come from a doctor not anyone on these forums.  Our STD experts don't look at pictures either.  Its more or less we can look at them all day long but really the ones trained in this go to school for 10 years and have that medical degree thingy.

Yes posts get pushed back down the list when a new one or one responded to gets put on the first page.  Typically given the average response time (between grace and myself along with others) they typically get hit before you get to another page.  Yours were still on page one.  Not sure about grace but typically I read from the bottom up to get the older ones first and skip anyone that has had a response from Grace, Petal, or if AJ comes back I would skip hers.  Anytime someone responds to a post it puts it at the top of the list.   If you see we haven't responded you can do a "bump" in your post but before you do remember we are volunteers so we don't always check forums it can take about 12 hrs to get a response sometimes.  We are good about getting responses pretty quickly I like to think.  Grace does a great job at helping.  I just give what I can and she fills in the holes I leave.

Keep us in the loop on your results.  We like to see follow ups as some posters never come back to let us know what they are doing.

hey-thanks. I apologize about the pics. I saw on some other post, that a member had posted a URL to his pics for someone else to see. I assumed it was allowed. Regarding multiple posts; I thought older posts got pushed back as new ones are posted. Regardless, thanks for the answers, guidance and suggestions. The results are due any day now. Ill make sure to come back and post them. Maybe somebody can benefit from the info.

Regards

Grace doesn't look at pictures typically but I will let her make that call.

Getting the IgG test was as smart as you both can do.  Its not impossible to figure that it is Yeast and you being sensitive to the condom.

Like grace said doesn't sound like herpes though.

hey Grace-
I hope all is well with you. I went to the doctor today to get the type specific igg blood test for HSV1 & 2.
I just added you as a friend. I also uploaded some photos of what I have going on and thought maybe you could take a look. The red bumps might not be too clear so Ill give you some side info.

After I shower they are redder than usual. They look nothing like lesions, soars or chancres. They also do not itch. There is no pus. It just came on one night after using a condom with spermicide. my gf and I have been active for 3 yrs. Neither one of us has ever had any break out of any type anywhere.

I find it so weird that all of a sudden, she has a yeast infection and develops soars in her genitals and I get these red bumps after using a condom....All this would have to mean that we both "broke out" with HSV at the same time exactly?? Unless either one has already had a break out in the past that went by unnoticed. Well if you get a chance to take a look id appreciate it.

if this is herpes, the acyclovir tablets won't work that fast anyways.

herpes and mc don't look much a like either.

at this point you both should get type specific herpes igg blood tests to see who has what and follow up as needed if your rash doesn't go away.

thanks again...cake wouldn't be a bad idea. I thought id give you an update since Monday is still a whole day away,...

the "canker like" soars on my gf's vaginal area have began to scab a lil...the overall swelling has gone down as well.  *side note: the Flagyl she was given were oral tablets.
The doc did prescribe Acyclovir tablets. Shes been taking for 2 days and to no avail.

Neither her nor I have ever had any "cold sores" or "fever blisters" anywhere on our faces or mouths.

Again, the red bumps on me look a lot like the pics of MC I have found online. Is it possible to have Herpes that looks like MC?
Thanks Grace

zovirax ointment is pretty much ineffective for treating genital herpes. oral zovirax/acyclovir should've been prescribed, not the topical.

anti-fungal creams work for treating fungal infections. that said, even if you don't treat herpes, it will go away on its own.  same with the moisturizer ointment in anti-fungals sometimes works on regular rashes too. nothing in an antifungal would help with molluscum.

you can't do a urine test for herpes.  did her obgyn do any lesion cultures when she was seen?

sorry it's such a stressful time for you right now :(  call on your friends for support - that's what they are there for :)  even if they can't help with the herpes issue ( or you don't want to share with them ) they can help with the  moving and give you support with your other issues too. if nothing else, they are good at bringing cake :)

Thanks Grace-

Why do u feel Zovirax was a total waste of money? Medically speaking?

I was able to read that dermatitis and MC are 2 diff infections. What I figured thus far was that anti-fungal cream would not work on me if in fact these bumps were Herpes related.. Wrong assumption?

And yes, I am going to get the blood work done. But will whatever test her first OBGYN performed on her urine reflect w/e it is she might have, and consequently me?

I appreciate the time you take to respond. I am in law school right now, its finals time, my landlord gave me 5 days to move because he needs the house and my mom almost died from a wrong prescription her doctor gave her 2 wks go....I need a break, some sort of good news. anyways, thanks again and Godbless. (if your atheist I apologize).

oh trust me, no need for "proper" terms on this forum....lol.

so she was given zovirax ointment? if so, total waste of time and money :(

you can't get a dermatitis from molluscum - they are 2 totally different infections.

can bv cause pain, swelling and lesions? yes it can and so can the vaginal flagyl.

as I said, at this point both of you should get the blood tests done and go from there. it's way too late for either of you to get lesion cultures done.

Grace-
thank your for your response.

She went back to the clinic because her labia was swollen and she was in pain. I saw that there are "canker sore" looking lesions around her vagina//labia. ( I cannot tell you the anatomical name because I do not know). So the OBGYN that was there prescribed her Zovirax. She put some on the painful area and it actually aggravated the pain. I read online somewhere else that Zovirax should not be applied to mucus membrane areas such as Vagina or inside mouth ? Doctor, however, recommended her to.....

The topical treatment my doctor prescribed me is called Clomitrazole (anitfungal). It seems to be working. My red bumps have receded but are still visible. The black needle point center I mention is similar to when you get an insect bite or the like. ....how can I contra-distinct dermatits from Molluscum?

Can bv cause these symptoms; swollen labia, "canker sore" type lesions, fluid discharge ?

Can I have a type of Herpes w/o having a break out or getting nothing even remotely similar to any of the pics I have ever seen on the net?

Again, I know your suggestions here are limited to these few words and consequently cannot be interpreted as absolute. At this point I guess I am looking for even the slightest affirmation that it's probably not Herpes but undoubtedly, only the tests will tell.

it should be pretty easy to tell the difference between molluscum and a dermatitis.

at this point both of you should get type specific herpes igg blood tests to see who has what so you can rule out herpes.

your gf was properly tested and found to have bv I assume. why did she see a different provider without waiting for her full 5 days of treatment to be done?

I can't say anything is a definite, but even doctors can make a mistake when visually diagnosing herpes. I've never heard of a black center, but it might take some patience/diligence to determine if it's herpes or something else.
