Herpes

1.5 Months back I got condition what I thought was UTI as I have had them in the past and was almost always cured with levofloxacin, but this time I was not getting cured and the Doc was also not understanding the cause. Then after some 2 weeks I developed some small blisters and doctor put me on Famciclovir 500 mg tablets (for herpes simplex) which cured me. No tests were done at this time. Later I went to a specialist STD doctor and he got IGM /IGG tests done which were negative (IGM - 0.08 and IGG - 0.13), This was after aboout 29 days of infection and 12 days since I started taking herpes medicine.
Six days back I saw red spots appearing again on my penis and the doc gave me ciplox 500 mg taking into account my negative herpes result from earlier test but two days back and with no relief We got second IGM/IGG test done and this is the result - IGM - 0.37(up from 0.08 of last time) and IGG - 0.42(up from 0.13 of last time). Am I right in thinking that I have herpes and the increase in IGG level also means the same. Its only 45 days since i Got the initial infection and so the IGG might not have developed fully to a level of > 0.9 which would mean positive. This brings me to an even more puzzling question as to how I got it since I haven't had any sex for past one year or so leave alone unprotected one.

if you want a 2nd opinion, by all means seek out the opinion of a dermatologist for further advice. you were seen and given a diagnosis so best to go with that at this point.

The Doctor say I have acute balanoposthitis and gave me fusidic acid ointment (2% w/w) and also cepodem 325 tablets. after three days today on fourth day after washing the area with a mild soap I noticed that it was bleeding quite a lot from the earlier red spots. The doctor says its recovery process and that the new skin generation results in bleeding. He also asked me to not use any soap for a while and just wash with water instead. AM I on right track?

Please advise.

recurrent uti's in males who are otherwise healthy are unusual. I recommend an urologist for proper follow up.

they also should culture your sores for MRSA too. it's a staph skin infection that is more and more common in the genital area and can be very painful.

Yes I am still having symptoms and the pain and tingling sensation is increasing by the day especially when I wash the genital area with soap and water. The red sores that I developed seems to be turning into open wounds now and it pains like hell. The doctor seems to be having no idea as of now.

the igm herpes test is a greatly flawed test. we no longer recommend its use for diagnosing adults with herpes.

at this point all you can do is wait and should you get a return of genital symptoms, be seen within 48 hours for a lesion culture and typing. even though you appear to not have had the proper testing done ( your tests appear to be non- type specific ), they are negative so odds are whatever went on isn't due to herpes.

are you still having symptoms?
