Herpes....can it be only me and not him????

Ok, I was with my boyfriend for almost 4 years. While we were together we broke up once and we both had other partners and both had unprotected sex. When we got back together after 3 months apart we went and got tested for any STD's and those results came back negative. We broke up again over a year ago and he was with another woman (one that I know of anyway) and had unprotected sex. We continued to have sex all last year sporadically. I was never with anyone else other than him and I believe it was late fall I seemed to have a weird cut from shaving and I asked him to look at it and he made a joke about it and we both thought nothing of it. I don't recall other flu like symptoms but I can't seem to recall the exact month either. Anyway, the same thing happened this March; same type of cut, right after shaving again. I had the area swabbed and it turned out to be HSV1. The 2 outbreaks seemed to be anywhere from 4-6 months apart. Both times I had just been intimate with him before and during the outbreak. He has just been tested negative using the Western Blot test. My question is how is it possible that only I am affected with HSV, especially seeing we had sex during an outbreak??? I still don't understand when I got this and how it could not have come out sooner.

My other question is that; I do get a really gross cold soar on the back of my thigh (opposite side of the body from the genital lesion) which comes out about once every 4 years or so. I thought if you had HSV you are less likely to be infected again??? I never had the one on my leg tested for whether it is 1 or 2 but given the different in what both of them look like I would say the leg one is likely HSV2 but the outbreaks are very rare???

I also figured that seeing I have HSV already wouldn't this infection had come out right away....could it have been dormant inside of me??? I do not have a good immune system to begin with, I don't heal well from anything. Any surgery I have ever had, I ended up having infections and while breast feeding I had thrush or infected ducts etc... How can anything stay dormant inside or me???

One more question...is it possible he did not actually get the Western Blot test and he just got a regular one and is lying to me??? We live in a small city and it seems weird that this type of sophisticated test could be done here???

PLEASE HELP???

actually they are both on the same nerve group. the skin on the thigh is thicker so recurrences there are going to appear much different from recurrences on the actual genital skin. it sounds like you have had hsv1 genitally for quite some time, before this partner and just never put 2+2 together.    even the best blood tests still miss 1 out of every 10 hsv1 infections so not too surprising that if indeed you had been tested for herpes with your std testing, it came back negative.

My swab has indicated HSV1 (genital herpes) but what I am wondering is...the one that comes once every 4 years or so on the back of my thigh is so dramatically different then the genital infection so I am assuming they are different classes of infection. I am just wondering what the possibilities of having HSV 1 and 2 existing in the same area are....in my spine?

My ex-boyfriend's test results were wrong because the lab screwed up and tested for HIV not HSV and he specifically paid to have the Western Blot test done because he said he never had any symptoms. They re-tested for HSV and he does have HSV 1. Now he is in denial saying that he does NOT have it genitally that it must be in his mouth yet he has never had a cold sore. He said (now of course) that he remembers having these bumps in his mouth that he would break and said that must be where his HSV 1 is. I highly doubt it though because I have a low immune system and more particularly in the last 2 1/2 years because I have lost my son (along with my ex....BF me being with him at the time....being a real A##) and as a result my stress and anxiety levels were so high that I began clenching and have since fractures 3 teeth needed 3 root canals and now finally I am getting fitted for a night guard to help prevent any more fractures. There is NO way this infection would be dormant in me as one already surfaces anyway and I could not have been strong enough to keep that dormant. ALTHOUGH...what are the conditions of a virus being dormant??? I believe it is based on a good immune system right????

Anyway I cannot afford the Western Blot test. It's almost $200 and I barely make ends meet now....the regular tests are a waste of time....I've had them a couple of times and they ALWAYS come out negative!!!!

why not just get yourself tested to see what your full status is?

no idea what testing he had done. why not ask him to get a copy of his tests to show to you?
